I took wanadoo 2 years ago and was paying £18 a month for it. The 1st 2 months were dreadful with lots of downtime and Orange's solution of using dial up. That would of been ok except they wanted to charge me 10p a min on top of the £18. The voip service did not work either and the Live box failed. These problems continued into the 3rd month but I eventually got it sorted by telling them I wanted to cancel my contract. They said that I had to pay the remainder of the contract off, I pointed out that they had failed to provide the service they were charging for and that I would gladly go to court.
Everything was ok until I stupidly tood an 18 month phone contract to get free broadband. Knowing how lame they were I done it all according to there instructions plus some extra calls etc to make sure I was doing it all right. What a surprise then when I got a nasty letter because I had not payed for my broadband. I called up and got the usual unhelpful person reading from a script. I eventually spoke with her manager and again got it sorted. I would however like to point out that to sort these problems took a lot of time and determination, I think a lot of people would have just payed up due to Orange's infuriating way of dealing with things.
I am now trying to leave Orange and having the same sort of nonsense all over again. I got a MAC code ok and migrated to o2 (now Sky) who have been good so far. Orange disconnected my service 3 days early although don't admit this. They seem totally incapable of cancelling my account and want to charge me even though I no longer get there service. When I ring and try to cancel they say I need to ring back the next day. I am just so hacked off with nonsense excuses and being messed about.
I had a similar experience when trying to cancel my mobile contract. What is this 30 day thing? I cannot get a straight answer out of customer care as to if it has already been served now I have migrated and if they are going to try and charge me for 30 days while not using there service!
Don't worry. Just make sure all your direct debits and standing orders are cancelled. You might get a letter saying you owe them money, but just reply outlining why you think it's wrong and you'll be OK. It's not worth companies of Oranges size doing anything major to reclaim such a small mount of money.
