I'm thinking of possibly leaving Orange, I am wondering, Would the Thomson Wireless adapters that Orange sell work with another ISP? As I read somewhere that they wouldn't? I have one currently, and will (eventually) have two.
Also, if you leave Orange, do you loose your'e @freeserve.co.uk etc e-mail address? as I've been using it for about 6-7 years, getting a new address could be difficult.
Yes, the Thompson adapters will work. They are just standard USB wireless dongles inside. It's the livebox that doesn't work with other ISPs - but you'll probably be asked to return that anyway.
You'll lose any Orange email addresses but your freeserve addresses could go, or stay. I know people who got an email address ages ago when they were on dial up, which still works. No guarantee though..
The best thing to do is to buy a domain, which only costs about £4 with the likes of 1and1 then you can have personalised email addresses which move with you for life and stop you being tied to one ISP for fear of losing contact with your friends. It will probably be shorter and certainly more memorable too...
If you reactivate online every 200 days or so (6 months is a nice easy round number to be sure) then you can effectively keep any Orange/freeserve/wanadoo/etc email address running almost permanently.
