Before i start. i know i should have checked with Orange regarding there up to 8mb. but still this may lead to an interesting read.
On the 10th July i moved from Freedom2Surf 8mb connection to Orange Wirless and Talk.
I thought that because i was getting 8mb from Freedom2Surf i would get it from Orange... happy as larry i was. then this came...

Great news, your phone line is now ready for 2Meg broadband. This is the fastest speed we can provide, unless you've chosen Broadband Starter where you can only get a speed up to 1 Meg (go to http://www.orange.co.uk/time/s...peed.htm for more info on this).
The techie bit
Now you can set up your modem (or Livebox) using the simple set-up instructions that came with it. Don't forget, if you do get stuck you can call us any time of the day, seven days a week. Broadband Starter customers call 0905 050 5151* and Broadband Plus or Max customers call 0870 010 2462**.
For free broadband customers with an Orange pay monthly contract, call 150 on your mobile phone for free or 07973 100150 lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call charges from other networks may vary.
If your phone line can support more than 4 Meg broadband you might need to change the settings on your modem. Go to http:www.orange.co.uk/membercentre/eightmegupgrade.htm to see how.
Important info
Just as a reminder, here are your details to get online. You'll probably need them again so keep them safe:
Arrgh i thought... how could they mess this up it was a simple change from 8mb to 8mb.
So i get on the phone:
Orange: Good afternoon, welcome to Orange broadband, my name is Youl, how may i help.
Me: Oh Hi Youl... hope you can help. i recently ordered broadband from yourselves and i think this has been a problem with the migration.
Youl: Ok, what seems to be the problem
Me: well i have migrated away from Freedom2Surf 8mb and now i am connected up to yourselves i have been downgraded to a 2mb connection.
Youl:Oh ok let me check your account....
Me: {GIVES ACCOUNT DETAILS}
Youl: ok i have your account. firstly let me say that your account quite clearly states that although you are on our max service.. your line can only support 2mb.
Me: Excuse me.. the service i was receiving from my previous supplier was ADSL Max and i was linking at 8mbps.
Youl: I am afraid you are mistaken. your line can only support 2mb.
Me: Ok so my router yesterday claimed 8mb link up and ADSLguide claimed i was getting 5.9mb speeds. how is that possible on a two meg line.
Youl: Erm... {Long pause} .... I have just checked with BT and they tell us that the max your line will support is 2mb.
Me: Are you talking about normal adsl or adsl MAX? ... Is it because Orange don't do adsl max
Youl: Yes we offer Adsl MAX... It is just that your line will not support any speed above 2mb. it depends on distance and quality of the line.
Me: So what you are saying is that yesterday the line supported 8mb but today it can only support 2mb.... And my actual house has moved from its previous positon??? houses don't move and length of telephone lines don't magically extend..
Youl: i am not saying that.. BT says that with you can only have 2mb from us.
Me: Ok so Orange has a fault that no other ISP has...
Youl: Sorry Sir, but Orange is not at fault your line will not support anything above 2mb.
Me: Hmm. so how did i get 8mb from F2s?
Youl: You didn't, they advertise "up to 8mb" and you would have gotten the fastest possible speed.
Me: ok let me just check with BT again. {visits samknows/BT broadband checker} ok Youl. i am now on BT broadbands site and it tells me i can have 8mb. this tells me one of two things.. Orange has a problem with its net connections.. or Orange don't do ADSL MAX..
Youl: Sorry sir we don't have a problem.. and we do ADSL Max.. this is an issue with your line. As i said speed is dependant on quality and length..
Me: This line has been supporting 8mb since March and now your telling me as of today it is limited to 2mb... would you like me to send this BT link to prove to you that this is not the case?
HUNG UP TONE....
Any way rang back and i spoke to a guy called Shelton who told me that as i was getting a stable 8mb connection i should not have been taken off it. Thank god someone who knows what i am talking about...
Left it with him who is raising it with escellations {spelling?}
Arrgh.. Anyway Shelton left me with hope that i will get my 8mb connection back. Just seems that everytime you talk to CS they follow a script... and won't deviate to check facts...
I have now read up on this website that Orange only offer 8mb on LLU... but was sold it by CS that as i was getting 8mb i will continue to receive it.
8MEG is not just for pple on LLU its also available on BT ipstream, which is what im on with Orange though im thinking of changing soon ..
As has been stated previously on these boards many times by many people. Orange at present only offer "up to 8mg speeds" for cusomers in an LLU enabled exchage. "upto 8mg" is NOT available on BT IPsteam. "upto 8mg" is available on ADSL max, which at the present moment Orange are trialing.(spelling oops)
