I've been having problems getting my laptop to connect wirelessly to my live box. I have a pc cabled connection that works fine. I had an invetel adapter that packed up and was replaced by Orange with a usb netgear wireless adapter.
I followed the instructions someone put on here about changing the security settings on the configuration accessed via configure live box on cabled pc. The laptop connection works ok so long as i have no security. As soon as i try to change to WEP or WPA i can't get connected.
What are the risks of leaving the security option off?
I live in middle of no where and my only neighbour is 1/2 mile away.
The risks are someone could connect access both your broadband and any computer connected to it. Even with your location running without security is just asking for trouble.

That's what I thought. Problem is I can't get the Laptop to work any other way. Have given up trying support as they are costly and just come up with silly suggestions (Your laptop is faulty, you have wrong wireless adapter, have a look on line for a solution...). Have requested MAC and am consider a diff ISP, but looking at reviews, they all seem to have their problems.
If anyone else is using a netgear usb adapter for wireless link on a laptop with any suggestions would be appreciated.
