I'm trying to install a livebox to start to get broadband. No joy as yet.
Investigating the wiring in our old house i notice we have no BT master socket - no NTE5 socket. The line comes into the cellar from outside. A cable consisting of four wire (Orange,Green,Black and blue-(i think)). This connects to the house wiring and sockets with a small oval connection box with screw in the centre.
Will not having a BT master socket (NTE5 socket) stop me getting broadband ?
Is there a device which i can plug in to see if i can actually receive a broadband signal ?
ps. I am keeping a daily log of the service provided. If after 1 month i have not been connected i shall cancel my contract and say that the goods/service were not up to the quoted standard.
Oh, and another thing, have a look at www.saynoto0870.com for free landline numbers for Orange technical help.
Not having an NTE5 shouldn't matter as long as your wiring is ok. Best you can do to test is to unplug everything you can from the phone line and connect into the nearest socket to that oval box thing.

The point is, to my knowledge, there are 2 specs for BT installations :-
1) Hardwired main phone and hardwired extension phones using the small oval connection boxes. This is the old spec. from the days of ringer phones with dials.
2) NTE5 installations where the main (first) BT linebox is installed by them and extension boxes can be added by the user. This is the later spec. which uses plug and socket connections.
You can't have a mixture of the 2 specs. and comply with BT regs.
What ph1jrh seems to have is an old connection box with plug and socket extension boxes running off it.
