I am writing on behalf of my father who has been a freeserve/wanadoo/orange customer for years, but has recently been 'upgraded' and now he has real problems getting on the web. As he only has 1 pc there is no point in him using the 'livebox' as he doesn't want something being turned on all the time, and the USB modem that he's been using for years has been fine until now.
Whenever my dad is online, the connection drops intermittantly and then when he tries to reconnect he gets an 'error 680 - no dial tone'. My dad has tried calling the indian support centre, but that got him nowhere - only stressed out.
I have thought about buying him a new USB modem, a D-Link, or a Zoom - is there any point in doing this, or is the problem with Orange and not my dad's kit.
Has anyone else had these problems, and if so please can you advise what you did to rectify them?
It's more likely the upgrade is causing the instability. You could try a different modem but try and only buy one once you know one way or another, best try and beg/borrow one and test first.
