The title says it all really. I've just noticed that over the last week, looking at the time connected that the internet has reconnected (so presumably has disconnected) every day a few minutes after midnight.
It there a deliberate reason for this? Is the Livebox perhaps checking for updates?
I'm using a Livebox on the Reading South exchange, capped at a lousy 608Kbps (used to get 2Mbps before they unilaterally "upgraded" us).

thats cos Orange get the cleaners in each night to clear out the internet tubes.

If it's about the same time every day then first check if there's anything that turns on/off at that time nearby, not always in your property which can make things harder to track down.

Shouldn't be, it checks for updates through the internet and only restarts if it finds a new one to install. Usually there's 2-3 per year so it shouldn't be every night, you'd need to see what the box does when it happens to be sure.
Thanks Elhana
I don't think it can be anything in our house.
We do live a few hundred yards from a tower block with quite an array of mobile phone masts on top. That could be a possibility.
In any case if it is some form of electrical interference there is little I can do, and it isn't particularly a problem.
But might it result in our line speed being reduced as being seen as unstable?[/quote]
This happens to me, every night recently 'PPP Server Down'. It's not the my system, the problem has to be at the Orange PPP Server. Why and for how long seems unknown.

I've had a similar problem except my Livebox has been disconnecting and reconnecting itself around 8 (give or take an hour) each morning. The real problem is that it invariably reconnects at around 2 Mbps instead of the 3 or 4 Mbps that it was previously. If I catch it and restart (by unplugging) it myself then it resyncs at 3 or 4 Mbps. If I don't catch it then my IP Profile drops and I'm stuck with a slow connection for a while.
I contacted Orange but they replied with a generic response which was little help. My workaround was to make sure my Livebox was switched off between 7 and 9 in the morning so that it didn't get stuck at a low sync speed. This was only a minor inconvenience since I didn't use the Internet at that time of day.
Recently, the same thing started happening about 8 in the evening (not every evening but quite frequently) too, which was more of a problem since I used my connection at that time and didn't want to turn off the Livebox to avoid a bad resync. I therefore had to watch for it and restart my Livebox manually to maintain the correct IP Profile.
At an early stage, it occurred to me that something could be causing noise on the line, and my Sky box seemed the likely culprit. However, I unplugged everything except my main phone and Livebox but the problem remained. I therefore suspected that something was being done at the exchange.
This last week I have been subjected to the LLU upgrade and hoped that this might resolve the problem. For two days I have been stuck at 2 Mbps and had Orange insisting that my "upgraded" line will now only support 1 Meg! Today, however, I got 3.5 Mbps but the automatic resync happened just before 8 this evening and now I'm back down to 2.5 Mbps.
I would be grateful for any suggestions as to what is going on and what I can do to solve the problem.
While it could be a problem at the exchange it's more likely something somewhere along the line causing it as the change from IPStream to LLU would have likely cleared that if it was the exchange at fault.
