Can anyone help?
Have 2 laptops connected wirelessly to my livebox. All worked fine until a week ago, when the laptop with Vista stopped connecting to the internet for no reason. It had worked fine until then. The other laptop (with windows XP) is still connected wirelessly and fine.
I have checked the device manager and the wireless adapter (internal) is working properly. I have done the ping test with and without the ethernet cable connected to the vista laptop and it gives the correct results as per all the help pages.
The only time I can get the internet is when the ethernet cable is connected laptop to livebox. As soon as I remove the cable from laptop, the connection is lost and I can't even get the 192.168.1.1 Inventel pages to appear (unless I reconnect the ethernet cable).
The message that I get when I click on the network connections livebox is that the settings do not agree. However, everything seems to be in order.
I think it is something to do with Vista as about 2 weeks ago, I installed itunes on this laptop and the following day, my cd/dvd drive disappeared. I had to remove the upper and lower somethings from the registry and it reapperaed and all works fine (this solution was posted on extreme tech and worked for me).
Can anyone help me get my internet back without having to use the ethernet cable? Any assistance willbe greatly appreciated.
Sounds like something messed up vista a fair bit there. If the wireless settings don't match then you need to access "manage wireless networks" list, remove and livebox listing and try to reconnect to it again, entering the key as needed.
Hi Elhana, I managed to work out how to do what you suggested and, hey presto, its working wirelessly now.
Thanks for you assistance.
I know who to contact now if I have a problem!
By the way, have just bought a new (cheap) pc, just for me (mum), but didn't realise that it didn't have a wireless card already installed. Would you recommend just getting an external wireless adapter - if so, which one woudl you suggest (Netgear, Belkin, speedtouch???) or pay someone to install a wireless card inside?
Thanks
Sue
Well the internal cards are technically better but as you're unlikely to use that PC to it's maximum an external adapter is probably fine. Internal cards are pretty easy to install if you follow the instructions.
