When I was told by Orange (spit) that I couldn't have Anytime dial up anymore I reluctantly signed up for their minimal package OR THOUGHT I did. When I spoke to the guy on Orange I said I did NOT want a wireless router, that I only wanted to pay £11.99 and I'd be ok with that. Next thing I knew I rec'd a Live box (found out after that it was called that) with the wireless "thingy" on it. I complained but told it's ok it was on 1p more than I wanted to pay!!!
I then had emails from them mentioning my phone bill, then looking into my account with these *as*ar*s I notice my phone calls logged since January (joined up with these oiks in December). I sent them this email
Sirs
""I registered by telephone with the Broadband starter package. I have now rec'd your EMAILS concerning this. Firstly, can you explain to me what the nonsense is about CHANGING MY TELEPHONE TO Orange?? I was not told this would happen, I only signed up to change over from dial up to broad band BECAUSE YOU WILL BE TAKING THE DIAL UP AWAY. No one has mentioned telephone package!!!!! I already get free weekend local calls with BT AND I DO NOT WANT THAT TAKEN AWAY - do you nderstand? I signed up ONLY for broadband, so leave everything else well alone! ""
The only reply I got was "telephone customer services". I eventually spoke with someone there and they said nothing would change but it came with the package. So I left it UNTIL TODAY when I again went into my account and see there are phone calls logged there. Rang BT who said they can't change it back that I had to contact Orange (scream). Oh yes and to add insult to injury..... Orange took the Anytime DD out in December AND the BB DD too........clever eh!!
I've now written to the gets and told them I shall be taking legal action unless they restore my phone call package to BT. Has anyone had a similar experience to this? I never had any probs with them on dial up but it seems they have got too bigs for their boots now.
That's one thing that hadn't really registered with me until I looked at the current packages just now.
If you start as a new broadband customer, it seems to me that you can't just have broadband, you must take the phone call package as well...what a $ucking liberty !!!!!!
Ok it's not spelt out quite that clearly but as it's a "second line" you simply don't connect a phone and you end up with a broadband only package, it's the closest package to it.
I was offered broadband to replace Anytime but it wasn't until after I'd signed up that I was informed the package would include phone calls. If I'd known that from the start I'd have never agreed to it. The calls seem to work out expensive too and if I was still with BT I'd be getting the evening and weekend calls free.
I've currently got a complaint in with Ofcom about this because Orange have stopped answering my letters (that tells you all you need to know, when the best way of contacting your ISP is by snail mail...).
Orange also messed up the transition from dial-up to broadband. The Anytime service was switched off in November, a month before they promised and before I'd got the broadband connection kit. That also took a month and two goes to arrive because Orange claim they had the wrong postcode. Funny they get it right on all the junk mail they send me.
The connection is far from reliable, I frequently can't receive e-mails and don't get me started on their so-called helpline.
Orange came 26th out of 28th in a recent Which? survey of ISPs and earned themselves a "Don't Buy" warning.
after reading all these problems, and especially given Orange email difficulties (since hopefully fixed by applying 'borednow's' remedy!), have been toying with idea of changing provider as my contract about to expire. Didn't want to as was dreading further problems (between them BT and Orange managed to disconnect my service completely, in error, for some Three weeks about 18 months ago) with which I cannot cope. Most definitely do not want Orange taking over my calls, this phone line not used evng and w/e, so offer of free calls etc useless. Rang customer service and, to be fair, they were more than helpful. I was put through to 'customer care', and they, after hearing my request, immediately offered me a 'broadband only' service, for considerably less than we are currently paying, no phone calls, and increased speed. Will wait with bated breath for result; perhaps it's worth ringing them and explaining exactly what you want and that you are not prepared to pay for a compulsory service which you don't require?
I'am with the old broadband starter package, the one with the plug in speedtouch 330 modem, which i moved to after they stopped dial up in november 2007, all i have is the broadband on its own, no home phone package with it, if i was to updrade to home starter or select would i have to take on the home phone part with it as well

If you're out of contract and your exchange is LLU-enabled, I would urge you to go to 02.
That's exactly what I did, and things have never been better
