i got my internet when signed up to Orange as my mobile phone provider. my internet connection works fine when i use the USB Speedtouch that Orange provided. Now, when i try to use another router (Netgear) i cannot connect to the internet. In fact the router doesnt even get an IP address or anything assigned to it. Now i know the router is fine as connected to the internet fine at a friends place. Could there be something on the line that prevents me using anything other than the USB Speedtouch modem?

Have you run the set up wizard so the router can detect Orange settings? then all you should need to do is put in your adsl username and password.
manually its
Multiplexing Method: VC-BASED
VPI = 0, VCI = 38
Encapsulation: PPP over ATM (PPPoA - RFC2364) or VC-MUX
Authentication Mode: CHAP
and your Orange adsl username and password.
The Netgear set up wizard should detect the above.
once you apply these settings it should connect to the internet.
What does it say after you apply these settings?

Yes there was but there can't be anything wrong with it as it connects ok to a PlusNet line, it seems there is something wrong within the settings is it all the addresses your not getting IP - subnet - gateway?

If nhyders suggestion doesnt solve it check to see it has the latest firmware installed if its v3 it should be 4.01.28 if you have then the only other way to try and solve it is do a factory reset and start a fresh.
