After another series of problems with my Orange broadband connection I stumbled upon this site.
I except Orange has more than its fair share of unhappy customers but I am not amongst them.
My connection speed has been gradually decreasing a long dialogue with both Orange and my telephone service provider has lead to the conclusion that my phone lines are slowly wasting away!
:o
This site while great for consolidating all complaints creates expectations beyond the reach of any isp. I ran a speed test and my results were as expected, however this site's graphical representation was grossly misleading. How on earth is 8000kbps my expected speed?
This is a theoretical maximum and no credance should be put in it at all yet you post it up there like some standard run of the mill average that other isp's could deliver.
Truth is you'd be damn lucky to get a speed over 6000kbps and thats nothing to do with Orange and you know it.

Hello insitu111
And welcome to OrangeProblems.co.uk
Your comments are noted...
Orange (and other ISPs) advertise that they can deliver speeds up to 8Meg. Only recently have they been forced to add the "up to" and make it large enough in their adverts for consumers to see!
In fact, some ISPs are delivering very close to 8 Meg to almost all of their customers. However, this is not the case for Orange...
If customers are paying for an "up to 8 Meg service", then it would be reasonable, under today's advertising, to expect a speed of perhaps 6-7 Meg... But many customers, as you would have seen from our breakdown speeds are receiving MUCH less than the "up to 8 Meg".
Surely, if it is known that speeds for broadband are around 6 Meg, then the advertising should reflect this. To heavily advertise up to 8 meg with only a handful of (Orange) customers (if any) actually achieving this is misleading and should be investigated by Trading Standards.
The majority of customers using broadband have no technical knowledge with respect to telecommunications. Therefore, they should not be expected to know that it is very unlikely that they will receive 8 Meg (or anywhere near 8 Meg) broadband when they sign up to an "up to 8 Meg" contract.
We have been collating broadband speed information for some time now (Orange and others) and have kept this information viewable to members of OrangeProblems.co.uk only up until now... We will in the next few days be showing more information to non-members, together with statistics for the previous month, the proportion of customers getting something close to 8 Meg and those who are, quite frankly, being ripped off...
Check back in a few days to take a look, and please, do let us know your comments on this topic.
