Hi,
I have just installed my Orange vLivebox and yes I can connect the web via the ethernet cable, that is until I shut windows XP down. When I restart the computer the system boots up, desktop displays then when thge connecting lights flash on the Livebox, a BLUE screen appears on my comuter telling me that windows has encounterd a problem and will have to automatically shut down and reboot by itself. This happens 2 to 3 times each time I swich my computer on. After the 2nd or 3rd auto reboot the computer and the Livebox works fine (until I shut the system down and on start up I have the rebooting problem again). If I disconnect the power to the Livebox on boot up the computer works ok.
At the moment I have gone back to using my old faithful usb speedtouth box,
Thanks for any help,
Kind regards Bill Oddie.
Found the solution to the original problem, so incase anyone has the same problem heres the answer.
My computer has Kasperspy firewall and Anti-Virus installed. The Livebox CD recomends that the firewall be switched off during installation and that tuned out to be the cause of the problem. When windows restarted Kasperspy did not like the ethernet port open and comunicating with the live box was seen as a threat, so it closed windows down.
The solution: To leave Kasperspy firewall running during installation of the livebox cd, and when prompted by the Kasperspy software the the ethernet port is trying to be opened click 'Allow always'. Hey presto the next time windows starts up Kasperspy will allow the ethernet connection as 'friendly' and not cause the system to close down.
Simple once the answer is found. But it took me about 5hours over 4 days to solve!!
Hope the above my help other Kasperspy users.
Kind Regards,
Bil.
