Ok, so I am trying to connect my livebox.
I'm an existing Orange customer using a Speedtouch 330 modem.
I'm plugging it all in correctly. I'm getting a nice steady flashing @ symbol meaning broadband is recognised. However, when I try to use IE or the directory, firefox etc... to get access to the routers login page, I can't do it.
The internet just tries to connect and if I try to get online, it won't because my speedtouch is unplugged for the livebox which isn't set up. If I tell it to work offline then it just leaves me on the offline page.
I think it might be some setting in my browser maybe. Please can someone put me out of my misery. Thanks in advance.
I assume you're using an ethernet cable, does the Local Area Connection (network connections in the control panel) show as connected or any other status?
If connected right click and go into the status and then support tab, what's the IP address show as? Should be 192.168.1.xxx
As long as it's showing like that then go into internet options (control panel again) and then onto the connections tab. Set it to never dial a connection, press LAN Settings and make sure use proxy... is unticked. Ok it all and then open your browser and see if you can access 192.168.1.1.
I'm using ethernet (RJ45) cable to connect it. I've opened my network connections and I only have my speedtouch connection there. No LAN or highspeed icon at all. I tried to set up a LAN using the frame tab "set up your own home or small office network" and it went through but didn't actually give me a new icon to play with in network connections.
I'm not sure if there is any other way to get my PC to recognise the livebox is even there. Weirdly as well, when I go into cmd.exe and bring up my ipconfig info I get nothing but a title. I plug my speedtouch in and 5 minutes later I search and my info is back again.
I'm no good with networks, they seem to hate me.
P.S. I just tried setting up a LAN connection using new conection, manual set up, connection thats always on. But it says my broadband connection is already set up and finishes the wizard.
If there isn't a LAN or highspeed internet section then windows can't see/use your LAN port. You need to get in installed with the correct drivers and then it should work.
You might find it highlighted in the device manager as having a problem due to this.
I've searched on the net and have found out that for some reason my LAN was switched off in the BIOS. I have re-enabled it now but I now get an unknown bridge device popping up in my hardware devices menu. I try to find drivers for it on the net but it can't see any. I tried to create a connection after enbling it but the same message cropped up.
Do you reckon the drivers will be on my motherboard disc, if it even is a driver problem that is.
Also, just wondering, there is a USB slot on the livebox. Does this mean you can connect it using USB instead?
Your motherboard disk will most likely have a copy of the LAN drivers there, you could even try their website and download the latest ones.
Yes you can use USB to connect the livebox but it's not ideal and they will not support it. You need the CD installed and then just connect up a USB printer cable to the side above the LAN ports, windows should find the drivers it needs automatically.
Ok, your going to laugh at me now I reckon.
I installed the driver, nvidia one for some odd odd reason but hey i'm not complaining, IT WORKS! I now have a LAN connection. So, using the CD and the livebox I can get into the username and password fields now.
There is a slight snag though. I was an existing Orange customer who just upgraded their account so I already had a password. The problem is its only four characters long (my mum isnt very secure on passwords). Trying to type anything less than a 5 character password into the router login just doesn't work at all!
So I found a thread on here about changing your Orange account password and followed a link to do it. I changed my password to an 8 character one and it said the password will take affect immediatly. However it hasn't after about an hour and a restart, i'm still using the four character one.
Any ideas?
Edit: Actually, this username and password, do i even need it? Can I not just set up the rouer manually?
You need a username and password so the box logs on, without it it's just a boring white box that doesn't do a lot.
Manual way is to log into 192.168.1.1 through your browser using "admin" for username and password to get in. Under Services > Internet you can enter your broadband username and password. If you're not sure then you'll need to ring Orange to confirm them.
