Just came to end of 18th month mobile contract plus free broadband. Decided to upgrade phone and start new contract. Agreement was that I would pay £20/month for phone and £5/month for Home Starter package. Have been using Livebox throughout 18 month contract. Today I receive Speedtouch USB modem (no use to me whatsoever) and request to send them my Livebox back or be charged £100. Does anyone understand what is going on? It says in a confirmation email I shall be put on Home Starter Convergence - is this different to Home Starter? On their website it says you get a 'standard wireless router' with Home Starter (not the Livebox). That's ok. What it doesn't say is you just get a standard USB non-wireless modem.
Confused and fed-up!
You have to return the Livebox because it was in your previous contract to do so and somewhere in the fineprint it says you don't technically own the Livebox you leased it as part of your monthly bill, I think the charge was £1.75 or something.
I'll probably have to send mine back once I get hold of my bloody MAC.
Thanks for info. I think Orange should not say that the Home Starter package includes a 'standard wireless modem' - they specifically state this on their website - because this is misleading. What you get is clearly not a wireless piece of equipment - unless by wireless they mean it doesn't plug into a mains socket!
received e-mail saying Orange have made the broadband package changes I requested and are in the process of changing my home phone provider so that I pay Orange instead of BT. I didn't ask for this so phoned them. Apparently standard with Home Starter. Only alternative is to change to Home Select which of course will cost an extra £5 per month. I'm beginning to see why this website is so popular.
But the web page is headed "BROADBAND AND PHONE FOR YOUR HOME" and states in the description "BT line rental remains payable."
Click on "Find out more" and it says "With the Orange calls package included with Home Starter, you will receive inclusive evening and weekend calls to 01 and 02 numbers." Then click on "More on Orange home phone services" and you get even more information.
