Ive recently upgraded to the Livebox and all was well for a while ...
But lately my network connection keeps going ... One minute all is well ..and the next .. ive lost conenction .
Ive phoned Orange CS about 8 times now .. they even sent me a new cable .. but its started again .
Ive been told to unplug the livebox and remove the cables or even switch the cable ends round .. this works for a while .. but the problem soon returns .
I get aquiring network address or its shows a limited or no connectivity ..
Now is this solely a problem with Orange or could it be my network card ? Any way to find out ?
Any advice would be appreciated, getting fed up phoneing Orange and getting the same old waffle
I have had this hapen to me a few times over the last year.
For me the solution was simple and hopefully it should be the same for you.
The cause of my problem was interferrence from other wireless networks or devices with neighbours.
All I had to do was go into the Livebox setup and change the channel number. (Please note that you may to try a few different channel numbers before you find one that is free from interferrence, so be patient).
To change the channel, type this address into your internet browser page :-
Sounds like Jos is using a wired connection rather than wireless.
You could manually set the IP details so it doesn't need to acquire one anymore, however this doesn't always fix problems like this, it depends what the actual cause is.

TO TEST NETWORK CONNECTION:
Are you sure that you have a network card in the computer - I know it sounds daft - but they look very similar to modems.
Is the network card turned off in the bios.
(Start - All Programs - Accessories)
Open Command Prompt
Ping 192.168.1.1 -t
Control C to stop
For info purposes this command does a continuous loopback ping to the router. Without the -t it only does it 4 times. Its a means of quickly checking connectivity between PC and router.
If no connection will say:
Destination host unreachable.
Check into Network Connections through the control panel. Double click your local area connection. What status does it show? If connected go into the support tab, what does it show in there?
You could also right click the connection and repair it.
There could be a problem with network cable - try another one. Also if you are in the red socket on the Livebox try the yellow one.
There could be a problem with network card or drivers - first try re-installing drivers - re-boot computer.
If still no luck I would physically take network card out of computer - re-boot computer, then turn off. Re-install network card and allow XP to to find and install it.
Hopefully a friend who knows more about computers than me will pop round over the next couple of days ..
I will tell him what you have said ..
In the meantime i have started using the old speedtouch modem again .. and its working fine ( touches wood ) ...
The livebox when off again shortly after my last post .. so its been thrown into a dark corner and left to think about its behaviour over the last few weeks
