I used to be on a 1Mbit connection since the Wanadoo days that was always constant, the speed wouldnt go up or down from 1 day to the next, getting disconnected several times in the space of a few minutes wouldnt effect the speed , I didnt have to worry about my "IP profile" and I never used to have to ring the tech support.
Now Im on 3Mbit ADSL Max connection and having no end of problems, my actual download speed at the moment is 135kbps because my IP profile has been set that low due to crackles on the phone line and syncing at a slow speed.
My question is, what is the fastest stable connection you can have with a constant and un-changing speed (Im not sure the name for that type of connection, is it just ...ADSL)? Im considering going back to that stable 1 Mbit connection...but is it possible to get a 2Mbit connection that is like that?
They're called IPStream or fixed speed connections. The faster rate adaptive connections are over IPStream Max or LLU connections.
IPStream connections come in 1/2, 1 and 2 meg versions although I suspect you'll be unable to get 2 meg as otherwise you would have been on it originally and your Max speed of 3 meg suggests your line wouldn't be able to keep a static 2 meg connection steady.
Also generally Orange don't change the connection like this on request, usually it's done if a fault determines the lower connection would provide a better connection. Most times they'd just end up fixing the problem that is causing the problem dropping your profile.
I had no end of problems since April 2007 when Orange took over. So my connection kept on droping to 40 kbps going as high as 100 kbps after 108 phone calls to mumbi and up north when i was able to get a uk call centre they sent someone to the exchange which was in Sept 2007. Which make my connection go upto 450 kbps. So i thought as i can only get upto 512 kbps this was the best i can get but so i thought, The problems came back but this time losing all connection and the live box just flashing so in Mid Dec 2007 so again another phone call and this time a BT engineer was made to come out to my house to check the line from exchange to my house. He came on 2nd Jan 2008 he checked the line into the house then the green box then exchange and found the fault. He spent time out at the junction box then came in told me its fixed of course i was please i got my 450 kbps connection back until? He asked me what speed i should have hmmm i said upto 512 kbps IPstream Max, are you sure he said becasue take a look it was tested and could go upto 1.7 mbps But he then told me I WAS BEING CAPPED on a fixed rate 500 kbps.
Has anyone else had this happen? please let me know
Oh BT says they are not and Orange say they are not so who is then?
