I have now tried a third router and that didn't work either. The login details are correct and they all work on another BT adsl (orange not unbundled round here) connection just by changing to the correct login and password for the other connection nearby.
The MTU tweaks didn't help however setting the routers (at least 2 of them) to PPPOE seems to usually get a connection that works with a couple of tries.
The connection is then solid and upto 6Mbit transfer speeds (8Mbit connection).
In summary Speedtouch 330 connects immediately or sometimes at the second attempt and then works fine.
Routers rarely connect set to the correct PPPOA settings and when they do connect you can't load any web pages.
Routers are reluctant but will connect if set to PPPOE (wrong setting) and then work fine. (At least for a day).
I don't believe I have any problems with my 3 routers, line, filters or anything anywhere near my end since it would not be possible to get a solid fast connection with any faults. Therefore the faults must be buried in the Orange network. Unfortunately they will only "help" if I plug in the Speedtouch 330 that I know works - so whats the point of that.
I not sure I can trust the router to work forever using PPPOE and my next problem is likely to be sooner rather than later. The only sensible action I can see is to request a MAC code and find someone a little more helpful.
Okay this is what happened to me and this is how I sorted it.
I have had problems on and off with Orange for 3 months. I have a belkin router f5d7633-4 which I was convinced was not the problem it was set to PPP-0E and LLC and recently had been a lot better. However 12 o'clock Jan 16th my connection went completely and would not come back up . I could Ping the DNS server. I talked to Orange and all they would tell me is that it was a router problem and my settings should be ppp-0a and vc/Mux. This would not work and they kept telling me to call Belkin. Why, How could it be a Belkin problem when it worked perfectly well untill 12 o'clock. They also told me they had made no changes. In the end I managed to get onto the belkin site via an old speedtouch and found that suprise suprise there was a firmware upgrade dated 12 dec 2007. I got hold of this upgraded my router and put ppp-0a etc and low and behold it works perfectly. Orange knew full well what the problem was. Its diabolical.

It's Orange servers not Belkin firmware......I'm using the same Belkin as you and I haven't downloaded the latest upgrade.
In fact my Belkin is 2 years old now and I've never upgraded the firmware......i.e. it ain't broke so I'm not mending it.
I'm not having any problems maintaining a connection.

Okay I suppose you are going to say I told you so, but after the firmware upgrade I'm getting timeouts and and a very intermittent service. Email works somethimes but web pages build without photographs and take an age to appear, if at all. I basically don't have a service any more. I fiddled with as many parameters as I could last night but to no avail and the PPP-0e setting won't work any more. To be honest I am trying to sell mobile home holidays on my website and I cannot afford to have this sort of service so I'm going to go to Tiscali. I can't take any more of this unless anybody can come up with something quickly. I coded MTU of 1432 which was the default. I have upped it to 1492 which is what I originally had but it seemed to make no difference. I've made the DNS server dynamic but I have also coded 195.92.195.94/95
I read about OpenDNS after making a complaint to ISPreview , that seemed to solve my problems. I later found out that my router wasn't getting the correct primary and secondary DNS server settings for Orange and entered them manually into the windows networking profile, which seemed to fix it. I'm still using OpenDNS though, it gives you a lot more control. Just my 60 cents.
Seems that this problem is everywhere. I've had adsl for a couple of years on a 330 and never had any problems. However at Christmas my son wanted wireless so he could have access throughout the house. I bought a D-Link DSL-2640B, he set it up and bingo it worked first time.
I got an email from Orange on the 9 Jan that they were making some changes and it would be completed on 15 Jan.
On the 24 Jan I tried to access the internet and all I could do was receive emails, access Google and Orange. Everything else was blocked out. Then on the 25 Jan I got another email saying that the changes had been done and that I was now getting 1Mbps.
That's nice since I've had 1Mbps ever since I signed up for adsl.
On the 27 Jan I got another email from Orange telling me that I was now getting 1Mbps for £17.99.
In the end I reinstalled the 330 and was then able to access everything. But hey Orange, I thought you said my line speed was 1Mbps, well it isn't. Orange have now downgraded me to 0.6Mbps!!! and have the cheek to charge me the same price.
Having contacted my son he thinks the problem is something to do with DNS settings.
Basically the problem seems to be the changes that Orange have made and they can't admit them.
You know there's something wrong because all my emails fro Orange are duplicated, I get two of everything. Orange sort things out, it's our money your taking to provide a service to us, as well as profits for the shareholders.

As you seem to have been "LLU'D", it might be wise to check out the link in the <<<<<<< left menu column "MTU & RWIN Settings". You need to run the "tweaks" test first then follow the recommendations.
Also from last Friday morning thro' to Sunday afternoon a lot of the UK was affected by Orange servers problems.
But your particular blip could well be MTU/RWIN related. Also try plugging the router into the main BT linebox with nothing else plugged in anywhere and see if there's any improvement.
I've had enough, after a lot of fiddling around with settings and re-installing software my wireless router doesn't work. It works as a LAN but the wireless USB adapter looks like it's failed. javascript:emoticon('')
Evil or Very Mad
I'm going to take the easy way out and get Option 1 from BT for a year and save some money.
