I have been with Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange for many years. I currently have a Livebox and I am getting a speed of 1mb. Although I have recently been experiencing random dropouts each lasting a couple of minutes, I have been fairly happy with the service (except for Orange's shameful customer services and technical support).
My contract with Orange expires soon and I was considering moving to another ISP, not just because of the recent random dropouts and the total lack of help from Orange, but after doing some research it appears my line is capable of faster speeds!
Orange have now offered me a free upgrade to 2mb if I agree to another 12 month contract. I now cannot decide what do and I would be interested to hear the thoughts and opinions from others who use this site.
The only reason I would stay with Orange is not to go through the nightmare of obtaining a MAC code from them and then discovering that the new ISP isn't any better!
The readings from my Livebox are:
ADSL Top Refresh ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 26.9
Attenuation (dB) : 46.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 3968
ADSL status : Connected [0]
You have probably already guessed that you're line is capable of more than 1152.
You could try plugging the livebox into the main BT linebox (if the bottom half of the box unscrews then plug into the test socket behind the front plate) with no other appliance plugged in, then run router stats again.
But I think you're fixed at 1152 but capable of at least twice that.
Some have found that if you ask for a MAC code, they will ask why you want to leave, explain why and state that you'll stay if they correct the problem but DO NOT agree to a new contract.
Thanks. Just phoned Customer Support and threatened to leave unless my speed was increased. They told me to phone 'Technical Support' and I spoke to an Indian gentleman who didn't have a clue why I was getting only 1mb. He suggested I change my package!! When I told him I was already paying £20 a month for Broadband Unlimited he went very quiet and suggested I phone Customer Support!! So I phoned Customer Support again and spoke to a nice Scottish lady who suggested I phone back Monday morning when the relevent department will be open.

Be careful of what they say they can offer and do for you if you start a new contract because once you have started that new contract the hepfulness will disappear very quickly and you will be stuck for another 18 months.
Its shameful that a paying customer has to threaten to leave to get a cap taken off your line, good luck with your choice.

To be fair to Orange, they probably don't actually know that they've capped you.
Many of the problems on LLU are caused by their sub-contractor.
So you can blame Orange for poor contract management but Orange don't actually know how to correct many of the problems, that's what they employ the sub-contractor to do.
Follow the pack and leave just as soon as you can.
I am seriously thinking about it.
My sister also has a Livebox and her internet connection drops so often that she's almost given up using the internet. She was told by a computer savvy friend that the Livebox is probably faulty. When she rang Orange asking them to send a replacement she was asked so many technical questions she gave up and put the phone down.
Surely Orange can check the Liveboxes remotely? They can't expect all their customers to be computer wizards!!

My experience - I was using a Netgear router with no problems. Orange gave me a livebox, tried it out - rubbish (dropped connections, slow when working). Solution - reverted to using Netgear.
