Wow, at last I managed to finish the Orange adventure game and got my prize, my MAC code
I put in a written complant with ISPA and phoned OFCOM this morning. Orange replied to the ISPA complaint within 9 minutes
<<We've finished making the changes we emailed you about and you're now getting up to 7.5 Meg broadband. Your monthly price for this service is £12..99. If you have one of our USB modems (not the Livebox) you might need to change the settings before you can enjoy the new speed. Go to www.orange.co.uk/membercentre/...pgrade.htm to see how.>>
I went to speedtester.net and it was still less than 2mb. I re-booted, re-configured the live box and went back online, still less than 2mb
I almost gave in and decided to let ISPA or OFCOM sort it out. Then I thought I'd give it another go.
Phoned the cc number, told by Pauline that I needed the Manchester call centre not Rotherham, I asked if she had a phone number and she hung up on me. Phoned again and was cut off before I managed to speak to anyone. Third time lucky, I was told again to phone Manchester, I asked for the number, there isn't one, you just keep phoning this number till you get lucky and are routed to the Manchester call centre! Reminded her it is a legal requirement of OFCOM regulations that they have to put me through to the dept dealing with my complaint. I asked to speak to her supervisor. Kept waiting for over 20 mins but I was determined to sit all day waiting if I had too
Escalations at Rotherham: I can see you have had problems, however there is still a fault on your line I can't give you a MAC code. Said OK I'll escalate the ISPA complaint to the second level and get back to OFCOM. He put me on hold for a while then said he spoken to the special fault dept who thought they could get around the problem. This will take 10 mins, I'll phone you back. He did and he gave me my prize. He aslo confirmrd that i was leaving without paying them the 8 months left on the contract, he said it was already in big letters on my notes
I feel sure the whole thing is an adventure game, they throw you little clues, you go off to Google or the forums and try to work out the next move.
Sorry this is another long post but it may prevent someone else in the same situation a lot of time and effort when trying to get a MAC code or terminate their contract. After all these weeks, phone calls, e-mails etc no one at Orange can tell me if or when I would be "upgraded" back to 8mb
Lets hope the MAC is the magic key to open the box for me to escape!
