Hi,

I recently upgraded from Orange Anytime to Orange Broadband, choosing the 8mb/s package. We are still waiting to recieve the Wireless USB adapters from Orange that we ordered 3-4 weeks ago Shocked

So in the meantime we have set up a wired connection so we can actually use the service we are now paying for Laughing

Upon accessing the internet for the first time yesterday, I was impressed with the speed increase from what I was used to with the dial up, however today I have noticed that the donwload speeds rarely ever top 700kb/s. Is this far too low a speed to be getting? I've also noticed that the larger the file (eg: 2gb) the more the speed drops, dropping to around 30-50kb/s Shocked

Any help or advice much appreciated.

could you post some speed test results, it will show a lot of info for those that frequently help out peeps here!!!
www.thinkbroadband.com is a good place to start but there are loads around.

A 5 meg result, pretty good overall but has no definite context without line stats. Stll there doesn't look like to much to worry about there.

As for file downloads, it depends on how you're downloading, where from, the route the data is taking, time of day, file popularity, etc.

Right now just keep and eye on things if you're worried about it.

How would I get line stats?

What seems to concern me is everything I have downloaded hasn't got above 700 kb/s with most stuff i've been downloading going at 100 kb/s or less. I've tried multiple websites and I tried donwloading via torrents aswell but I'm still getting the same speeds Confused

But i tweaked my settings to get that. Wink

It really does depend on what you're downloading and from where.

My guess is that if you download a 5meg MP3, you'll probably achieve 3 to 8 second download time.

you should average around 650 to 700kb on a good download
