Hi,
I've been without my connection now for the last week.
Must have phoned the marvellous (not!) tech support at Orange every day for an hour. Keep going around in the same circle - reset livebox, try to connect to address 192.168.1.1, which it doesn't. Everytime this happens the advisor asks me if I have entered the address correctly as if i'm stupid. I've done it so many times I remember the f****** address!
Ended up talking to the escalations team who sent me the livebox cd and ethernet cable. Tried to install - it didn;t and still no connection. The @ light has been slowly flashing all this time. tried ethernet recovery which didn't work. Were going to try a USB recovery for which they were going to call back.
The guy told me the call back would be in four hours. This was yesterday evening and I hadn't received a call so I called them again and they said I will get a call back within 24 hours!! Stupid people! I complained and the potatohead on the phone said they will call within the next half hour, which didn;t happen. Now it is Monday afternoon and I am at work. Fat lot of good if they call now!
I am now at the end of my tether and if it is not fixed after one/two more phone calls I will leave Orange. Why can't they believe that the livebox is faulty - it's not 100% reliable as can be evidenced by this website. this is the fourth tiem I;ve had problems with the livebox and I feel that I need to vote with my feet!!
Anybody have similar scenario?

On what you say I'm not sure the Livebox is faulty. A slow flashing@ is good.
The problem appears to be a network fault in that you can not get 192.168.1.1
TO TEST NETWORK CONNECTION:
Are you sure that you have a network card in the computer - I know it sounds daft - but they look very similar to modems.
Is the network card turned off in the bios.
(Start - All Programs - Accessories)
Open Command Prompt
Ping 192.168.1.1 -t
Control C to stop
For info purposes this command does a continuous loopback ping to the router. Without the -t it only does it 4 times. Its a means of quickly checking connectivity between PC and router.
If no connection will say:
Destination host unreachable.
Check into Network Connections through the control panel. Double click your local area connection. What status does it show? If connected go into the support tab, what does it show in there?
You could also right click the connection and repair it.
There could be a problem with network cable - try another one. Also if you are in the red socket on the Livebox try the yellow one.
There could be a problem with network card or drivers - first try re-installing drivers - re-boot computer.
If still no luck I would physically take network card out of computer - re-boot computer, then turn off. Re-install network card and allow XP to to find and install it.
