Background:
On 8Mb/S wireless and talk service which works fine after the initial speed problem was sorted.
Have 2 PCs hard wired and one via wireless network.
According to www.speedtest.net I consistantly get 6.1Mb/S down and 244Kb/S up on the wired PCs which is as I would expect given the distance from the exchange/noise margin and attentuation figures.
The wireless PC has a Linksys PCI wireless card which links to the Livebox fine and has never dropped a connection. PC is about 20 feet and 1 wall/wardrobe away from the livebox, signal strength usually 78% and data transfer rate 36 to 54 Mb/S.
Problem:
Running Speedtest from the wireless PC gives download speed of 3Mb/S and upload speed 244Kb/S.
Questions:
Why am I getting half the download speed over the wireless link?
Is there anything I can do to increase the wireless download speed?
There is a small overhead in encryption, but it is small, and considering a 54MB wireless link is far quicker than Orange broadband that shouldn't be a problem
The only thing I can think of is if you've tweaked your MTU settings then you may need to check the same on your wireless PC. Make sure that you select the wireless adapter within DrTCP and not the built in NIC card
Thanks for the suggestion, did some googling and used DrTCP to change my RWin settings for the wireless card. Wireless PC is now running at max speed.
Thanks
Shaun
