Not that the connection when it works is anything to shout about, I now can't get my PC to detect the Livebox.
I've just had a new hard drive installed after the last one went caput so I'm starting from scratch from basic Windows XP SP2. My first problem was the old Wanadoo startup CD which froze and didn't allow for software installation and Orange quickly sent me the new version. Problem solved I thought......not quite.
First things first, the Livebox is working and is getting a connection, there is no problem there. However, as soon as I plug the Inventel adapter to my PC through ANY of my 8 USB ports firstly the light won't come on and secondly the Livebox won't detect it. Its as if it doesn't exist and this means the installation CD will not continue. I've tried using other USB ports but to no joy.
The adapter works (cause I'm using it to access the net now with an old PC) and the USB ports are working correctly too.

UNABLE TO CONNECT WITH WIRELESS:
Are you pressing Button 1 on Livebox to put it into pairing mode?
Press Button 1 on Livebox so the wifi light flashes. This puts livebox into pairing mode and you have 10 minutes to try and connect your wireless device . This only needs to be done once and then you should be able to connect every time .
I had to change security on Livebox to WEP only.
WEP key is case sensitive.
If security is an issue WPA is more secure, try WPA only.
You could also try Changing the channel. One recommended to try is channel 9. Try this first if you can not see the Livebox at all.
Another issue is if there are 2 programmes on the computer that you are trying to connect trying to control the wireless. Turn off the programme that came with the wireless card and use XP to control the connection.

It's a driver problem.
The light on comes on when the adapter is fully installed and working so forget about detecting the livebox, signal problems, pairing and everything else for now.
For the inventel adapter you must run the Wanadoo cd, there's one that's marked Orange but has the same software on it. Either are what you need. It's a common problem that the cd doesn't work and that's down to updates to the Flash Player since the cd's were made. If you look for Adobe Flash Player in your add/remove programs list and then remove it you should then be able to run through the cd and get it working.
I tried using the original wanadoo CD that my Wanadoo Livebox came with but no amount of tinkering ever got it working as it froze like mad and wouldn't progress through the menu screens. I tried deleting Flash player, updating older versions of flash, newer versions of flash and NOTHING. The CD just wouldn't progress at all.
The new Orange CD that they've sent me progresses through the screens fine until it gets to the screen were its ready to detect livebox through the Inventel adapter. Because the adapter won't light up and show any sign of being on and picking up signals from livebox the menu screen won't progress because its saying there is no connection between it and livebox and because it won't progress it won't install the software. Catch 22.
As I say, the adapter and livebox themselves work fine as I'm using them now with my old PC but with my new PC its not budging.
Is there anything I can do and if I'm missing something can you do me an idiots guide to getting it up and running as its causing me no end of grief especially after spending £200 on fixing my PC!

Go into the control panel > system > hardware tab > device manager button,
Look on the list for any items with a yellow question or exclamation mark. What shows up?
Anything marked cohiba?
Whats in the network adapters section?
The only item that is on the list with a yellow exclamation mark over the top of a question mark is the item named COHIBA 3887 rev0.
I've looked at the properties and it states the drivers are not installed but the device is enabled. However, when I try to manually install the drivers via linking to the CD it says it cannot find anything on the CD in which to associate with the adapter so wont install anything. I've tried using the wanadoo and Orange installation CD's......
The other items in the network adapters tab are
Marvel Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI gigabit ethernet controller
1394 Net adapter
1394 net adapater #2
It lists it as cohiba because it won't show the correct name until the drivers are installed.
If you've installed the CD, upto or after the point where it tells you to plug in the adapter then Orange have an article that should walk you through fixing it.
Go into the help section of the Orange site and search for kb6544.
Thanks for the link but ultimately it still hasn't solved the problem.
I've gone through the complete Orange link, done it Three times just to make sure and it still won't find the drivers and install. I have tried to go through the CD but as you know its halted at the stage when it wants to connect. I've gone through update hardware wizard after double clicking cohiba icon, its then asked me to locate the drivers but will it locate them - will it hell.
I've let it search the whole computer, force fed it the CD but nothing, it just won't find the drivers to install and keeps asking me to connect to the internet to locate the drivers.......hell that aint happening any time soon.
I'm stuck and getting more and more miffed as I go along.
Am I doing something wrong or is there something I can manually download to get the drivers without actually utilising the CD at all cause it aint working at present. Would it work if copied the Inventel file and contents from my old PC (that works) and transferred everything over to the new one asking it to find the drivers there or does the installer do more than that?
Strike that, I just tried using the complete Orange and Wanadoo files from my old comp and just transferred them over to the new, the adapter and setup wizard will just not recognise the drivers at all and that means I'm back to square one.....
