Hello, I am new to livebox, had it for a month or so, so far all is working well with no problems. What I wanted to ask is how secure is it? I have a firewall and antivirus program installed. This is my first venture into wireless, any help is welcome, thank you, jorg
In terms of wireless it's relatively secure but if you're worried you can actually improve the security slightly. That means change the secutiy to WPA only which is the highest level secutiy the livebox can do instead of it's default combined WEP and WPA mode.
If someone did manage to get the key then there's a second issue they have to get past, it's not security as such but will trip up people who are just following a script or don't know what they're doing. The pairing mode, where you pressed 1 during the wireless setup, only allows new devices to connect during the time. So once the antenna light goes solid it won't accept new devices connecting.
As with all wireless it's just a matter of how long before someone gets in rather than preventing them full stop but if on WPA the length of time needed is so stupidly long it's not practical for anyone but your most hated enemy to even bother.
Generally the livebox is pretty secure in that aspect.
As for PC security it's pretty much a standard router in that respect, nothing special but once you've got a software firewall and anti virus you should be fine unless you start opening strange email attachments from nigeria.
