Yesterday i upgraded to home max, then this morning i woke up to no internet.
This morning i called them, they reset livebox, no joy, got passed through loads of departments, ended up them saying my line was being upgraded and would have internet in 2-3 hours.
4 hours later, still no net so rang up, tried all the reset stuff again, got passed around loads, finally settled at the line needs testing but because it was tested this morning for my upgrade it cant be done again until 5th December.
All i get is PPP server down, tried another router and didnt work. I am currently using a BT openzone/fon network that i can recieve at £6 for 1.5 hours (although i have now joined fon so my next hours are £1.50).
Just looking for general advice, and if they are telling the truth or shoving me off for a few days with their usual BS.
Orange and their famous line tests!
In my opinion it is absolute BS and just used to stall people as I had the same last year each time I rang.
Now they have told you they cannot do another test until the 5th of December!
This is stalling upon stalling.
How they get away with this is beyond me - criminal.
As soon as I loved ISP to Idnet there was no fault on my line and never has been in over a year.
Thousands of people have posted similar on here - they move ISP and this apparent line fault disappears.
Soooo happy, been costing me loads to do my casual sunday browsing lol
Shame i have to stay with them but they give me an actual 2.5meg speed and if i switch no other company can guarantee a speed faster than 0.5meg until 10 days after i sign up to a new 12 month contract.
The tests likely cannot be done because there was a regrade order in progress, tests/faults/etc cannot be submitted until an order completes to say all the required work is completed. They can take upto 10 days but that can vary somewhat.
Who told you that no company can give you over 0.5 mb connection until 10 days after you sign up?
You would have to be absolutely miles from the exchange to only be able to receive 0.5 mb and obviously you're not as Orange can give you 2.5 mb.
BT and Sky both said it, basically i wanted to go back to BT as i had 4 years faultless service with a speed of 0.5 which grew to 1.5 by the time i moved to Orange 18 months ago.
Since i am about 3 - 4 miles from the exchange a speed like that is realistic but unacceptable.
I would really like to get cable as they seem to have the best broadband speeds and reliability but telewest ran out of money while laying cables through the main road of my village so it never got up the streets.
Well if Orange can give you 2.5 MB then believe me this is the absolute minimum you will get elsewhere!
Never have I seen or heard of Orange bettering another ISP's speed - it's always the other way around.
The ISP I'm with, Idnet, do 1 month contracts and also BE do 3 months.
o2 (now Sky) have started doing broadband too - they bought BE. They have a 3 month money back guarantee.
I know for a fact that Orange will not be the fastest you can get even if you are 3 - 4 miles from your exchange.
It'll just be the estimated speeds BT's system is giving out being wrong. It's been seen many times where it's suddenly decided you can only get 1/2 a meg even when you're connecting on several times more than that.
Providing you go onto ADSL Max or another rate adaptive service it doesn't matter what those checks say as it'll adapter to whatever the line can cope with.
