Hello, I am the current recordholder.
I have an Orange livebox and am connecting my Sony Vaio, using a Netgear WG511 v2 wireless pc card, but cannot connect properly, wirelessly
- I keep going back to the same things every few months but nothing changes. The current attempt sees me getting to a rather garbled
ebay sign in page, I can open up no other site ) but when I sign in,
the next page comes up ; Forbidden You were denied access by Access Control List. What's that all about ?
Has anyone any ideas please ?
Pete
Aha - I 've just gone properly wireless - just after I posted !
I knew I must be close. My solution appears to have been at ....

"Appears your other profiles are trying to access the Internet via a dial-up conneciton. Within Internet Explorer go to
Tools > Internet Options
Click on connection tab
Remove the dial-up connection if not required or select never dial a connection
Click on LAN Settings and confirm all options are unticked.
Click on OK buttons to save changes."
As soon as I did that, I could properly access all sites ! MAGIC !
Tomorrow, I'll connect my other Sony VAIO, with the same settings,
( hopefully that should be simpler as I can copy the settings on the newly wireless enabled VAIO ). Many thanks for your help/prompt reply Elhana, KRs Pete
UPDATE ! I've connected one Sony Vaio wirelessly and it's working fine. I've now tried to install the other Vaio, but the Installation CD for the Livebox now won't run properly. All I get is the help file. I have seen the post about removing Adobe Flash Player 9 to enable proper operation of the CD, but all I have installed is Adobe Reader 8.1.1 and Adobe SVG Viewer 3.0.
perhaps these are the ones. Alternately is there a download to bypass the CD, or alternately how easy is it to do it manually ?
Any takers ?
Many thanks !
Pete
Don't bother with the CD and just do this instead, providing it's using windows to run the wireless.
Go into network connections through the control panel,
Double click the wireless listing,
Find your livebox select it and click connect,
Enter the key as needed,
Press 1 on the livebox so the antenna light is flashing,
Click connect on the key box and it should be up and running after a few seconds.
If it's not XP and is Vista it's a little easier but the same sort of process, just go into the connect to option in the start menu.
Thanks, I'm on XP on both machines, doing it manually is a lot easier as you suggest.
The signal strength is very strong right now ( 2300hrs ), earlier on this evening though it was up and down constantly, dropping to poor every few seconds.
I don't know whether it's the time of day or something I've done, but anyway, I'm well chuffed now. I may even go and buy a new wireless router
if the signal problems continue.
Cheers Pete
Well before buying a new router if you get any signal problems you'd be best off trying to change the wireless channel in the livebox config, that can often help work around problems such as that.
