Hi, I am so glad I found this website! I have used Orange Broadband ever since the Freeserve days, and for the most part I have never had any major problems. However, I moved fairly recently to a new flat (only about half a mile from my old place, but on a different exchange), and since getting the broadband transferred across I have had severe connection problems.
To start with the livebox would not synchronise (@ light flashing quickly). Then I noticed that at certain times the @ light would flash slowly and then connect (@ light, pairing light, and broadband talk light all solid). The connection never lasted for long before going (40mins was the record!) Repeated calls to Orange resulted in the same useless advice (numerous factory resets, requests to swap the microfilter, adsl cable, etc).
Orange did advise that they had discovered a supposed fault on the line which was subsequently fixed, and today I had a BT engineer round to tidy up the telecoms wiring (which was left in a real mess by BT when they set up our phoneline a few months ago - I suspected this might have been the problem). Since the engineers visit, the livebox @ light keeps quickly flashing, then slowly flashing, then connecting for maybe 20 seconds, then quickly flashing again, and so on.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what the problem might be? My own thoughts are that the line itself must be ok since if it was a line problem, there would be no connection at all? I have to admit I have not tested the adsl cable - could this be the problem? I have plenty of filters which I have swapped over to no ovail so I can rule any filter problems out. Alternatively, maybe the livebox could have a problem, although I don't have any alternative adsl modems with which to test the connection. I just can't understand what problem could cause the connection to keep connecting and disconnecting repeatedly.
Anyway I'll end this rant now. All advice greatly appreciated, cheers!
Ok, my internet connection has now been up and running for just over 5 hours. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the work the BT engineer did tidying up the telecoms wiring did the trick, although it intrigues me that it still took about 3 hours after that work for the internet to connect properly. I guess Orange had to do some stuff at their end to get the connection working? Anyway, hopefully it'll still be working in the morning ;o)
