I've decided that Orange don't monitor usage. Or at least, they weren't monitoring mine.
Reason I know this is because after eight days I've caned my five gig limit with Waitrose. As I always had a two gig limit with Orange, and never heard a dicky from them, I've always assumed I use no more than two gigs a month. Their T&Cs say they ignore slight breaches but will contact you if you go over persistently.
I cannot believe my family's online behaviour has changed that much in the last week. At the rate we've been going over the past week we'll end up using over 20 gigs in one month!! Given this is ten times my old limit with Orange this leads me to the conclusion that they either don't monitor usage or 20 gigs a month is within what they consider an occasional breach.
Of course, I now have a seperate problem in that I need to change my family's online habits (it's two pounds a gig over the limit with Waitrose, with a cap of 60 pounds otherwise). With two teenage daughters this could be even trickier than dealing with Orange...
<sigh>

Thanks for this. Now I know I'm not going mad. Had exactly the same. Left Orange for Waitrose as on paper it appears I get more than double the limit, but as you say - looks like Orange never checked as I used to download films every week. Now I'm with Waitrose I'm having to be careful. I've just read elsewhere that Waitrose offer a 20 gig limit for £28 gig - but only if you threaten to cancel. Still - there's plenty of unlimited deals out there for less.
I haven't checked this forum for ages - for obvious reasons!

Waitrose do indeed offer 20 gigs for £28. I didn't need to threaten anything either. I didn't have anything to threaten them with! I'd signed up for 12 months and used my 5 gigs in the first two weeks! They could have had me over a barrel.
I rang them to see if there was anything else they could offer me - and to my surprise, relief, and general restoring my faith in humankind, they said, "Sure, have 20 gigs for £28".
After my hell with Orange I wasn't really expecting that ;-)
I know you can get better 20 gig deals but I'm nearly six months into my Waitrose contract and I am very happy with them. If the next six months remain the same then I'll stay with them - even if I can get cheaper elsewhere.
I'm prepared to pay extra if it means a quality service.
