Having found it enlightening to read the many messages on this great board, whilst at the same time becoming increasingly disheartened by Orange, I finally decided to do something about it on Monday and rang up to request my MAC code so I could transfer elsewhere.
I was asked why I wanted to leave, so I thought honesty was the best option. I told them their service was CR*P.
When asked why I hadn't phoned their service line recently regarding my problem, I informed them courteously that having been with several ISP's over the years, and having been online since CompuServe and 2400 baud modems which connected to the serial port on a 386 PC running Windows 3.1 , I had long since given up on technical support lines as I knew more about connection problems than anything they could suggest.
I was asked what a 2400 baud modem was, which kinda verified my comment !
They then offered me a LiveBox and a reduced contract at £ 9.99 if I stayed.
I explained that as a long-term Wanadoo now Orange customer, if I was not valued enough to be automatically upgraded to LiveBox without asking for it - not to mention being overcharged by nearly £ 10 a month for god knows how long, I wouldn't stay for 99p a month !
I was assured that my MAC code would be received within 5 days. I courteously informed them that if it wasn't I could guarantee that I would phone them second, having first registered a complaint with OfCom
On Thursday my MAC code was received in the post. I chose post as my Orange e-mail has never worked properly and they wouldn't send it via e-mail to any other email address.
The MAC code was phoned through to my new ISP within 10 minutes, and I should be all up & running within 10 days or so ..... I can't wait.
If like me you've well & truely had enough of Orange, then make your mind up to request your code and find someone else; and don't be put off with innane suggestions as to why you should stay with them.
I'm looking forward to being able to connect when I want, staying connected for as long as I want, and having a hassle free internet connection ....
.... like I enjoyed with Wanadoo before Orange messed everything up !
