<Livebox Issues? ~ Yellow rj45 port problems when switch connected!

I just re-arranged my network using the livebox as the main hub (with wireless disabled due to it's location in the house), the Red RJ45 connection is connected to a Netgear Wireless access point located centrally in the house, and the yellow connection connects to a Netgear (GS608 v3 - 8 port) Gigabit switch.
I can't manage to get my wired PC connected to the livebox through the Netgear switch - the livebox doesn't allocate a DHCP address, and even if I assign one manually then still can't connect - this is when the uplink to the switch is connected to the yellow livebox port. The wireless access point connected to red port works perfectly.
If I switch the cables at the livebox end, so the Netgear switch is now connected to the Red port, then it works fine. My PC connects perfectly, getting a DHCP address and accessing broadband perfectly - but now the wireless access point fails instead - now connected to yellow livebox port! So you'd think the yellow port was faulty? But if I switch connections back again, and take the netgear switch out of the loop, connecting the PC directly to the yellow port, then all is fine! It just appears that if a device other than a PC is connected to the yellow port, no matter if its a switch or wireless access point, then thet port doesn't work.
Any ideas? Can anyone try this on their livebox and tell me whether its a failure on mine? The firmware is the latest version BTW!
Before we dumped Orange earlier this month we had problems with the yellow port. We had no additional hubs or separate wireless access points, but just put a second PC on the yellow port. Quite frequently whatever PC was attached to the yellow port (we swapped them to test) would lose contact with the Livebox and required power off-on of the Livebox (or done via the working red port PC accessing the Livebox to reboot - can't remember exact method). To avoid confusion, I'm not talking about a factory reset.
What was puzzling was that sometimes we'd have no problems for days, even the odd couple of weeks, but then we'd hit a period when it needed rebooting every day.

Thanks for the help guys. I bought a Netgear 5 port Fast Ethernet switch (£12 from PC World) and connected this to the Red port, taking one line to the wireless access point and another to my Gigabit switch in my office - works like a dream!
I may know the answer to your problem... I am also going to open up a new topic relating to this problem.
First some background.
Due to PPP probs, I wangled a new livebox from Orange, it has what looks like a pcmcia slot just above the red and yellow rj-45 ports. I do have extensive IT knowledge, being in the business for about 14 years now. So I tend to try and fix things myself instead of phoning tech support. (called Orange tech support once... that was too much...) I have a laptop and a desktop connectec to the livebox, one in the yellow port and one in the red. All worked well, up till now...
OK, enough said.
Orange phoned me up 2-3 weeks ago asking if I would like to partake in a digital TV trial with them. Seeing as it would be free for two months and I would not have to pay for the on demand films, I said yes. Couple of days back I got some emails off Orange saying it would not be long now till they sent out the digi set-top box which will run over the livebox. Mmmmhh... will run over the live box... ok.
Two days ago both pc's could not connect to anything. Couple of test uncovered DHCP service not running, ok, I'll set my own IP's and what not. The next day, no connection again! So I tried the laptop, nothing. It was connected to the yellow port. I tried every troubleshooting idea I had to no avail. PC set back to DHCP worked then stopped. Set back to static worked again, but not the laptop.
After investigating the Livebox setting, it seems to have updated itself. The Yellow port is now for Digital TV over IP!!
My solution, my 8 port switch into the red RJ-45 port and both my PCs running into it, both have static IPs and nothing has dropped since, but watch this space...
Booga, is your connection still up? Do you ever switch your computer off at night and leave the LB on? When you boot the computer up in the morning is your speed still good?
