A while back I had a message in my trace window saying that smtp.wanadoo.co.uk was now closed, and I should be using smtp.orangehome.co.uk, but I've found it to be painfully slow
This is how long it takes to send a single 2KB message

So I have switched back to the wanadoo one, and it seems OK now
There should be no need for the password to access the SMTP server to send email. Check if you have SSL, Secure Password Authentication or SMTP server requires authentication enabled, if so disable them and try again.
