hi and thanks for reading best give you a outline of the situation
ordered 8meg broadband on the 17th of october was given a go live date of 31 of october but all i keep seeing on my livebox page is ppp server down
been calling them everyday to get the same yada yada ring back in 24 hours for a update so by now im getting annoyed phoned them today first was told there is a problem with my username and password so asked them to give me a new one. cant do that have to stick with the one ive got i explain to them yet again that im a trader on ebay and im losing money everyday not getting anywhere.
lady just keeps saying please just wait another 24hrs im saying no i will wait one more hour if the problem isnt resolved then i want my MAC code she tells me i have to ring someone else for MAC code
so rings customer support to be told that its a problem with the BT exchange dont know who is telling the truth lol then ask about my MAC code to be told i can be given it but if they do then we wont get any tecnical support from them any more and if i use the MAC code i will owe them £350 to get out of my virtual contract.
and if they cant resolve the problem after 30 days they will waive this fee he offered me a free month but dont believe them i spoke to my bank this morning to be told they were going to take money from my account tommorow so cancelled my direct debit
please someone help is there other people i can get to resolve this apart from broadband support they have a really easy job just pick up the phone and say ring back in 24 hrs lol
ive had enough just want the broadband on or to go with someone else who is reliable. are they right in saying i will owe them such an extortionate amount of money if i use the MAC code ?? any info or other ways to get this sorted would be brilliant thanks dan
1. You shouldn't have cancelled your DD.......debt collectors will be knocking on your door pretty soon.
2. If you go 30 days with no connection and a record of regular calls to CS/TS then you get a MAC with no contract cancellation charges.
3. You rely on an internet connection to trade on eBay so don't use Orange. You need a proper business connection with instant tech backup. You cannot afford to do things on the cheap when it's you livelihood.

If you have access to another router, connect that.
If it connects then re-connect the livebox and check connection again.
This has worked for some on here, also changing from PPPoA to PPPoE has worked.

Newbie here. Just posted on another link but just to say I've been without connection for nearly 2 weeks now. Very fed up. Can't seem to get anywhere and just spoke to a guy in the escalation team who is sending me my MAC code by email although I'll only believe it when I get it! India tech support team can't tell me when I'll be reconnected - keep saying allow 5 working days. Also something mentioned about BT exchange. Have been promised 6 months free broadband when it's up and running again and this has been confirmed but at this rate it'll be 6 months until I get back on again! Using BT dial up - they have said they'll reimburse all the call charges and dial up charges. Who knows! Can anyone recommend a reliable ISP?!!
Newbie post with some history and what should be helpful.
signed up like others and happy for a few months, now been without for 3 weeks, ppp_serverdown. Reading all these forums proves useful though, so use the info shown and read all forums. My tips are as follows
1. Forget India call centre, insist on escalations dept and pester to fix it. (not sure they can yet as their servers are not always playing!! not always to do with LLU as my exchange is not LLU enabled yet!! dread
2. Remind the person on the phone 30 days legally without service contract is shredded (paper means nothing)
3. Try another router and change the setting PPPoA to PPPoE and use same user name and password (worked for me hence this post )
4. Try a adsl usb modem speed touch might help but didn't for me, then connect and retry with live box.
Now problem for me is using another router, not livebox and got connected, orange have not yet fixed the problem, so they are not aware of this post. why should I, there server is not giving me the service it should via their livebox. (tried it and guess what ppp server down message again)
Still waiting for Orange to ring me as promised yesterday, so they can ring me for a change.
finally, they should refund the monies for calls plus other deals to soften you up with, threaten to go to watchdog
hi there and thanks for all the help i got a spare router out copied the settings from the livebox to the spare router and changed to pppoe
instant success called Orange back to tell them i now had service told them what i had done and the lightbulb went on in there head they knew what had been the problem said something about changing the attenuation on my line alls well till this evening goes off again unplugs the spare router and plugged the livebox in did reset put in username and came back on so fingers crossed it holds out lol
The other points to mention to escalations when you get through to them (or even India if they are not putting you through) is to meantion the ISPA and OFCOM. Also mention that you want you want your MAC code which they must legally provide within 5 days, and that you will exercise your right to use it if service is not restored within 30 days of the problem starting
That worked for me. My MAC code arrived in 2 days by email (which I insisted on because of the postale strikes) and my LLU connection was fixed by reducing my synch rate. I'm 90% happy with this solution, but will be going bang on the door of 12 months
and you should get a bit cheeky with Orange i did and got a free month of internet for my troubles
speed not too good though on my livebox page it says attainable download rate 8000kbps but my downstream is only 3072kbps
and up stream is 288kbps will i have to ring Orange again to get this sorted ???
as i tested with BT line checker and should be getting between 5.5meg and 8 meg on my line
