our livebox has been slow since Tuesday night and we used to get 4mb but now only 0.5. it's not the BT line because somebody came out and checked it. is this a problem with everyone?
Bristol and Weston super Mare had a downward blip on Wednesday, starting during the late morning, getting steadily worse until around 9pm, then it magically it returned to normal.
I think it depends on what area of the country you are in.
Basically the only problem you have is that you are with Orange.
They lie, rob and give you excuses instead of providing a real broadband service.
I moved to Idnet last September and all my problems with the so called 'line fault' (claimed by Orange) disappeared.
Never once lost a connection since moving.

Hey I also started getting 130Kbs started around the same time, where in country are you ?
I am in somerset
Supposed to be on 2.5Mbs
Spoke to muppets in Orange customer serves and they won't even do a line test bacuase they are upgrading service soon, but I am on a BT exchange and checked with them and no works are planned and its not going LLU.
Think I might try to escalate one more time and then sod them I am going to terminate for breach of contract.

Well my internet has been very slow for the past 4 weeks. I noticed it first just after purchasing a new laptop. Thought it was something to do with Vista but my girlfriends Laptop id the same (XP). Google seems fine and this site is not too bad, but apart from that. I normally only get 512 kbps as I am so far away from the exchange, but this is ok for me normally.
Talked to Orange on Sunday (tech support in India (I think)) and went through the usual trouble shooting, all fine. Suggested a speed test, which showed 48 kbps! Phoned Orange on Monday to request my MAC code, as I can not put up with this any longer. They said they would give me a month free, and they know about the problem. They assured me it will be fixed on this Friday 15th June. I decided I would hang in there until this weekend just to see. If it is not fixed then I will be leaving.
I would suggest to any one else with problems to phone and request a MAC code. At least you should get a month free.

Crawling here tonight. Getting 2K per second at the moment; even the wireless connection from my Nintendo DS Lite is struggling, and those devices are limited to around 6K per second maximum.
I am in Warrington Cheshire I am getting 138kbps, on a supposedly 8mb line although 2 is the max at the minute, I was told 6 days ago there was a fault still not fixed today. This is now into it's 3rd week.

Exactly the same here. In Warrington..speeds between 100 and 150kbps for 3 weeks...Orange said they felt I had a line fault...

I too, have had an unexplained slow-down of my connection with vista. After trying things, and after visiting Orange problems, ( found whilst trying to sort the fault ), i was convinced that it was Orange and the livebox, that was at fault. What was weird, was that there are 2 other computers running XP, in the house, using the same connection in wireless mode. They were NOT having any problems at all. web pages , downloads , uploads, nothing. Orange say , it is advisible to make the first connection by means of a wired connection, which i did, by means of an ethernet cable. At first no problem, 3 computers and users quite happy. Then for no apparent reason i had serious speed problems. It turned out that my ethernet cable connection, which is Realtek RTL8139/810x family fast ethernet NIC driver had been updated through the Vista/Windows updates. This driver version was 6.0 something. The one before was 5.6 something. I used device manager to find out what was installed. I rolled back the driver to 5.6, and everything has been perfect since. Obviously the 6.0 driver is total crap. If you have this connection, try it please.
