I switched over to Home Max on the 11th. October & the best download speed that I have ever achieved is a little over 1500kbps (ThinkBroadband Speed Test).
The worst I have achived was at 1-30 p.m. today, 1st. November was124.4 kbps download & 34.7 kbps upload.
Usually, I don't get above 1000 kbps download & 75 upload, & the average is less than 600kbps d/l & less than 50 kbps u/l.
The BT Line Test tells me that my IP Profile is 2000 kbps
& my DSL Connection Rate is:-
Upstream 96 kbps
Downstream 2432 kbps
Actual IP throughout 1642 kbps.
I have contacted Orange's Technical Dept. several times & they have always promised to fix the problem in 2 or 3 days but this has not happened.
On two occasions they conntacted me by phone to check on progress. When I told them that there was none they promised to look into it & ring me back the next day.
This did not happen.
One of their technical people put the problem down to heavy internet traffic, whatever that might be ?
If their are any legal eagles out there, can you tell me whether Orange's non-delivery of their promises is tantamount to fraud ?

The phrase to use is "breach of contract".
Ring up and go through to customer care (option 4) instead of tech support (option 5) and request a MAC code, insisting it must be with you in 5 working days by law. Then migrate to another ISP. You may want to consider this carefully if you're in contract as Orange and some debt collection agency will be after you if you jump ship early
Thanks to all who have replied.
I think I will leave it for now until I have tried to use it for a few weeks then I will write to the boss of Orange Broadband at :-
eric.abensur@orange-ftgroup.com.
a handy address to have at times like these.

They are ringing me back on Monday to review my speed over the weekend perhaps I could help you & ask her to ring you, I told her I was not the only 1 having problems with the Max Home package, this is when she said they were having problems at last they have admitted it but mine is fine now.
Thanks for the offer Tangoman, but don't be too hopeful. Remember my problem has been ongoing for a matter of weeks so recent "problems" could just be another excuse.
I have written to Mike Newnham, so let's see what comes of that.
If nothing happens I am going to suggest that we all get in touch with BBC's Watchdog programme & let them have another go at Orange.
Just to emphasise how bad the Orange service is, at noon today I had the following figures on a Thinkbroadband Speed Test
Download :- 269.55 kbps
Upload :- 29.s kbps
Not bad for an IPS that is saying it is providing a 80000 kbps service.
How about holding a competition for the lowest recorded reading using the Thinkbroadband Speed Tester ?
It would be funny if it were not so frustrating.

Hello frodron
We have a large dataset of broadband speeds which can be viewed here on OrangeProblems.co.uk - the data show the fastest and slowest recorded speeds... by regions and by areas...
All members logging their speeds on OrangeProblems.co.uk (and that's well over 600 regular contributors) have done so using SpeedTest.net so as to keep the figures consistent . Depending on which service is used and how busy the server is at that time will determine differences of speed recorded. After a number of tests, we found the most consistent broadband speed test to be that of SpeedTest.net
We set up the survey initially to allow users to keep a record of their broadband speeds. We present each user's speeds in a table and graphically which each user is free to use and publish (with acknowledgements to OrangeProblems.co.uk). We now have many thousands of speed recordings and the dataset is getting larger every day. All data is verified prior to being on general view to members.
So if you are thinking of complaining to your ISP (we can record data for whatever broadband company you are using) then sign up and start recording your speeds, then print off the data and send it to the appropriate complaints department! It will be a complete record of your speeds which we will keep safe for you should you ever require it! We recommend logging speeds once or twice a day - it's up to you how often you want to record speeds (it takes less than 30 seconds after the initial record, which itself only takes about a minute!).
