I've recently signed up for, and set up a livebox for my dad with which to access the internet. I sorted out the laptop etc, and got the wireless going eventually.
At first we had a few problems with setting it up, but we appear to be sorted now. Part of this was due to the wireless phone, but using channel 13 appears to have corrected this.
I was reconnecting so often while I was setting it up with the laptop software, I also set the pairing time to unlimited.
I've been told by my dad that apparently after having used the connection for about 45mins - 1hour, the internet connection simply cuts out, and he can't see the livebox name in the wireless networks window. Furthermore, if he leaves the livebox for a while, then unplugs and reconnects the power to it, it seems to start working again. I know that this isn't a big deal, but having it cut out every hour isn't particularly great, and I'm at a loss to think why it is cutting out.
I doubt very much that it is due to interference, as I have change the channel, and no cables are coming loose during the down-time. It appears that the connection is just dropped intermittently and then reconfigured if the livebox is rebooted.
If anybody could shed any light on this, I would be most grateful.
I had the same problem with a LIVEBOX I have now replaced my BT master socket in the front room with a new one and disconnected all other phone extentions from the front plate and plugged the LIVEBOX directly into the master socket and all connection problems fixed.
P.S Just a hint "Try removing the front plate from your master BT socket and plugging in the LIVEBOX into the back plate" direct connection to the incoming BT line !!
The Matrix, the issues are different as he's no longer able to see the livebox signal rather than the internet connection from the box cutting out.
Does the signal only return when the livebox is rebooted or does rebooting the computer help do the same thing?
Pairing mode is only needed to pair new devices, once paired the livebox stores it's unique MAC address so it can connect in future. As it does work you should be able to set pairing back to normal 10 minutes. If that upsets things then there may be a wireless problem with the livebox itself.
I've not been able to use the laptop recently myself, but I'm told it's still playing up.
I'm afraid I haven't been able to work out whether rebooting the machine will help, but what I have noticed is ridiculously fluctuating connection speeds.
I can't find any reason for this - I'm a few metres away in an open room, and considering I've had connections running throughout the house before, it's obviously not the problem. Just now I went from 54mbps - 48mbps - 2mbps - 1 mbps - Out of range then back up again in different increments.
Apparently it does this sometimes before cutting out. Tbh I'm still mystified by the thing, and I'm tempted to just throw it off Beachy Head and get a half decent reliable router. However since the thing was free it's annoying if i have to replace it myself.
If I manage to work out anything else, I'll post again...
hope u find a solution as i certainly havent and having phoned Orange yet again tonight (the 10th time in a month) i have a real feeling to jump of beachy head (i shouldnt say that as i live 3 mins away from said * spot!!!)
I don't know if this will help, but someone told me to never phone Orange outside of normal working hours - monday to friday, 9 - 5. That way you don't speak to a student working part-time. You may get further with permanent staff.
