After constantly phoning Orange help desk re my low speeds a woman on Customer Support told me on the 12th October that Orange engineers had 'provisioned a 2 meg speed for my connection. My package is Broadband Unlimited 12 months with Livebox and talk started in July 2007.
I actually have installed a Netgear Rangemax router, set up by the Tech Guys which gives me very good wireless coverage for my laptop which I often use whilst in bed as I am wheelchair bound disabled, router wired to desktop as well. The Livebox was not strong eough signal wise. Hard for the 'help desk' to understand I found.
So following the threads on here with interest I sent Orange a 'formal letter of complaint' on the 16th October, after a kindly BT engineer checked my line and changed my Orange filters to an ADSLNAtion make, enclosing my line stats, btspeedteser screen shots plus a print out of my speeds on thinkbroadband which is where they always wanted me to speedtest. BTW my IP profile is only 500kbps today with downstream of 478, oh yes Ialso totally cleared Norton 360 from both Pc's just to please the 'help desk'
So today I had a call from Orange...upshot they are sending me a 'speedtouch' modem which I do NOT want !!!! It is not so they told me able to run WiFi, I said that I wanted my contract cancelled but they won't cancel.
I have also phoned the ISPA and they told me to submit a complaint which I have done and put a report on the Ofcom site..The speedtouch modem they are offering will not meet my needs nor is it the package that I signed for.I run on Vista ad it also seems that the speedtouch also does not have the same security level as my Netgear. Please has anyone any ideas to help ?
Mist, the IP profile is almost totally automated, if it's low it's usually because the system thinks the line is unstable. For pretty long lines, such as yours, I checked the post you gave all your stats on again, things can vary more than you may expect. It can be the case that your line isn't suitable for rate adaptive services like this.
The stats you posted before didn't really show anything that looked like an indication of a major problem.
Thank you both for your replies, the speed actually dropped to 47.63kbps last weekend then recovered but mostly running under 500kbps with an IP profile of 1meg. I have managed to hold the noise margin steady at around 10db after fitting ADSLNation filters attentuation 57db.
The escalation gentleman at Orange phoned today and was so very helpful, I actually have hope this speed matter may be sorted out after he contacted BT and ran some checks himself, BTw have my line profiled as only taking 1meg, but we had forgotten to do a BTw check on our other phone line profiled by BTw at 3megsplus verified by the Orange man. various neighbours who are all also profiled at 2.5 0r 3megs plus on the BTw site, so after even more checks by the Orange man doing whatever he did and him speaking to BT, a fault was proven on my broadband line and sent over for the relevant BT depts to sort out !!!! He is phoning me back on Tuesday with a further update, but yes it does seem I have a bad broadband line which hopefully will be rectified soon.
