I've been using Orange for about 2 month now and have the behemoth that is the livebox sitting in my front room.
I use XP and am wirelessly connected using a netgear usb adaptor.
Now before Orange I was with BT and never had any real problems. Since swapping my internet is working great through the day Mon-Fri. However, once it gets past 3 or 4 on a weekday and basically all weekend then my connection starts dropping. It does re-connect if i switch the live box off and on but it'll only stay for about 5 minutes max then drop again. It usually comes back on later at night, say past 11 and is fine again.
It's really frustrating! Now I don't believe that this is something to do with my set-up or internal wiring because it works great through the day and I'm happy with the speed pages load and d/l speed etc. It really seems to me that at peak times when Orange probably have the most users on the connection goes belly-up.
I'm wondering, has anyone else been experiencing this recently? Oh and I know that the best solution is move isp, but now I'm stuck for another 16 months unless I pay to get out the contract.
Sounds like it's just Orange doing what they usually do ie promise the world and then provide a seriously naff service once they've hooked their victim. You could, I guess, spend expensive hours on the phone trying to convince them that they should release you from your contract. Personally I would tell them to F off and ask for a MAC.

Hi,
I too am having the same disconnection problems with my broadband ever since Orange took over!
From early morning until about 5.30pm the service works reasonably well with few disconnections (NEVER had this problem with Freeserve and Wanadoo!!!). After ~5.30pm, the broadband KEEPS disconnecting, sometimes several times a minute, and becomes unusable. Often, I have to reboot before I can get reconnected. This persists until about 2am before some ‘normality’ returns.
I’ve phoned the technical support people on numerous occasions without joy. The so-called technical “experts” appear to know very little about the service apart from the very simple basics. When I could understand what they were saying – sometimes the Indian accents were so strong I couldn’t believe they were speaking English – the help has been crap. I’ve even been told to disable my firewall and antivirus as a solution! The last so-called “technician” took me through a complicated procedure that resulted in a COMPLETE loss of service! I think my dog could do better!
Like many Orange broadband users in my position (the internet is full of similar complaints!), I’m stuck with their contract for another 10 months unless I cough up. Has anyone ‘out there’ received a satisfactory solution to this appalling Orange service?
