I have installed my livebox to my computer via the wired way. I have a wirless adaptor (not from wanadoo / orange) in my windows 98 laptop (usb port) can any one tell me how i set the internet wirlessly up on windows 98.
Thanks
98 is pretty old now and doesn't have built in support for wireless like XP, you'll need to use the software which came with the adapter to try and connect to the livebox.
What adapter is it? I'll have a look at the manual and give some pointers if you're unsure.
Can't find the manual for it but it seems it should just be a wireless access point for PSP's. So should be compatible with 802.11g and at least WEP security. Should be able to get it to connect to the livebox but you'll need to go into it's software, scan for the livebox and try and connect to it.
Can you view 192.168.1.1? If you can you may need to manually set the DNS servers, had to do that on an old 98 machine of mine to get BB working fully over wireless.
If I remember right, offhand, the servers are 195.92.195.95 and 195.92.195.94.
If you can't view the page does the wireless software tell you the IP address assigned by the livebox, if so what is it?
wont even let me access the config pages it says this page cannot be viwed offline. It says its connected in the software but still wont lode on any internet browser software any other ideas.
My Belkin wireless router that I've been using for about 3 years decided to stop being wireless last night, meaning that I've had to finally unpack the Livebox and make it work. I've tried using it twice in the past, but as I have 3 computers and 2 (including my laptop so I can watch Spooks and surf at the same time) are win98, I've been following all forums here regarding the joys of win98.
I've tried Drtcp021 and put in all the settings and nothing changed.
My wireless signal to the Livebox displays on the two 98's with an excelling signal strength but as with ZJC above I can't open web pages. I've tried to print off the ip listing but nothing appears as ip.txt.
Ipconfig/all shows my ethernet adapter settings are:
the39steps, your system has still got the settings it needs to connect to the belkin router.
192.168.2.1 would be the address of the belkin, it's 1.1 for the livebox.
If the belkin asked you to set it manually originally then just put it back to automatic or you could try changing all the 2.1's to 1.1's. Process should be very similar.
Elhana, thanks for the advice. After you pointing me in the right direction I did the following:
Opened the control panel and then the Network. Scrolling through the configuration I came to TCP/IP Wlan 8.2.11g Network Adapter. Double clicking on this brings up the TCP/IP settings.
IP Address Tab - I changed to 192.168.1.199 and the subnet mask was set to 225.225.225.0
Wins Tab - disabled
Gateway Tab - New gateway 192.168.1.1 added
DNS Tab - I typed the name of my host computer (the one physically attached to the Livebox) and DNS Server search order was 192.168.1.1
With these set, I was asked to restart my computer (dramatic pause) and then when it restarted it was wireless and back on the net.
This worked with both Win98 machines, just setting a different IP address in the IP address tab.
And I didn't need to worry about pressing the 1 button on the Livebox as this process just ignored it.
