My 12 month contract will expire in January.
If I want to switch, will I have to do this before January to avoid a new contract or will I have to do this before?
I'm on Broadband Unlimited (Talk Anytime International). Will the contract renew automatically. If it does renew, will I go on Unlimited or broadband Max/Select and therefore lose 70 countries with free international calls?

Once your contract period is up you simply stay on the same package but without the contractual ties; in other words, you can leave at any time (notwithstanding the usual period of notice). Your package will remain exactly as it is at present, so you'll retain the 100 free international calls unless you choose to switch package (in which case you'll enter a new contractual period).
