To get rid of the 1m cable with the supplied 'wireless' adaptor, I treated myself to a D-Link PC Card for my laptop...and the Livebox doesn't want to play ball!
After much messing about, and using a static IP address as advised by wanorange tech support, I did somehow manage to get it working...but now it has given up and I have wasted several hours trying to get it going again.
Hopefully someone can help.
The MAC address of the D-Link appears in the connected devices in the Livebox system info, and it works perfectly if I disable the Livebox security. I am running Norton Internet Security on the laptop, but disabling this makes no difference - it is only disabling the Livebox security that makes it work. Needless to say, that is not an acceptable permanent solution.
BTW the laptop OS is Win 2000 Pro.
Please help...
Thanks for the suggestions Elhana.
I had already tried changing from channel 1 to 7 with no effect - I'll try again with a few more channels.
The static IP was suggested by wanorange tech sup when I was originally struggling & initially did not seem to help, but with a bit more fiddling it did work (don't really know how). When working I could use the wireless connection in my office 2 floors above the Livebox. I now cannot get it to work in the same room!
I will try a few more channels and see if this does the trick.
Should have mentioned that the when I disable the security on the livebox, after which the wireless card successfully connects, the signal strength is indicated as very strong (particularly when in the same room as the Livebox).
Does this suggest the problem is not related to a signal issue
I am certain the WEP is entered correctly, and as Elhana says a problem here is unlikely as it paired and worked previously.
