Hi, when I first subscribed to Orange 8mb I was receiving 2.3mb which I assumed was all my line was capable of whichever provider I was with.
Currently I am only getting 576kbs as shown in my Livebox Stats. Speed tests are showing a constant 460kbs. The line stats from the modem show my attainable download rate to be between 1056 and 2576.
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 18.4
Attenuation (dB) : 63.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 1568
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 576 288
Attenuation is constantly 63
During the day:
Noise margin: 25
Attainable Download: 2576
After 5pm:
Noise margin:11
Attainable Download:1050
Using Test Socket:
Noise Margin: Went from 11 to 18
Attainable Download:1568
I figure if I improve my extension wiring then I should be able to keep my attainable download speed above 1000, if I keep ringing them everyday and they conduct a line test then they should be able to get my speed back up to at least 1mb??
Why does my noise margin halve during peak periods?
Would a different provider be able to get me a better speed even though its the same line?
I have asked for my MAC code as my contract is up in 8 days and I am meant to give them 30 days notice.
Does anybody recommend a provider with low pings? I like to game online.

From those stats it looks like you're on IPStream. Presuming you are actually on ADSL max, which would explain the varying speeds a lot more, then it could be your line has been identified as a "chronic flapper" and been capped by the system. While it's capped like that the magin means very little except what you could get and it varying a lot ties in with the line being unstable. Unless there's an underlying fault then this wouldn't change a great deal between ISPs.
