I realise from this (excellent) site (and others) that Orange Broadband is pretty bad. I've got BT Broadband at the moment and I've had 10 months of problems - and so I have a complaint with BT High Level complaints, OTELO, and have had the Deputy Head of the Welsh Assembly write to me about the ongoing problems. I'm no stranger to the complete nightmare of British Broadband promises - my advice is: keep fighting!
Since I have a £30 mobile contract anyway, why not give their free broadband a try.
I am told (by their sales staff) that if you cancel it, all you have to do is send back the modem recorded delivery. If you opt for the £5 a month 'mega' broadband, you just have to pay the remainder of the contract - which might be worth doing to avoide the hassle?
Because, if it works, surely it's a good deal? If not - pay the money and save yourself the heartache?
Are you aware that, in order to get either the free or £5 bundle, you have to sign up to a brand new 18 month contract on your mobile? Not an issue if you just started one anyway, I admit, but if you're close to upgrade time, be aware the "Free" broadband will potentially cost you several hundred pounds for a new phone if you need one. Oh, and if, like pretty much everyone else here, you have problems, they won't be as willing to cancel the new 18 month contract - they reduced mine to 12 when I complained bitterly which was only acceptable as I was at the end of month 10, which basically means I now only have to wait about 4 days to give them notice to cancel.
Just remember, if the problem at BT's side is something physical then it'll very likely follow you. If it's just some system problem then a change of provider could help but you have to be careful with things like this.
