After the nightmare of the dreaded ppp server down for 14 (FOURTEEN) continuous days, we now have an active server and can access the internet with the ethernet cable. Magic. However, now we no longer have a wireless connection, and cannot get it back no matter what we do.
Tech 'support' at the (un)help desk failed to get the connection going again dispite checking every single possible setting on the configuration pages, the properties of the wireless connection, and endless resets/pairing attempts. The techs gave up and said that the problem must be with the laptop and suggested we take it to a computer shop as they reckon its IP has changed, causing problems with the livebox recognising it. We had great difficulty getting a wireless connection when we first got the livebox and again intermittently since and its driving us nuts!

UNABLE TO CONNECT WITH WIRELESS:
Are you pressing Button 1 on Livebox to put it into pairing mode?
Press Button 1 on Livebox so the wifi light flashes. This puts livebox into pairing mode and you have 10 minutes to try and connect your wireless device . This only needs to be done once and then you should be able to connect every time .
I had to change security on Livebox to WEP only.
WEP key is case sensitive.
If security is an issue WPA is more secure, try WPA only.
You could also try Changing the channel. One recommended to try is channel 9. Try this first if you can not see the Livebox at all.
Another issue is if there are 2 programmes on the computer that you are trying to connect trying to control the wireless. Turn off the programme that came with the wireless card and use XP to control the connection.
Thanks, I restored the laptop to its factory settings and followed your instructions, and although at first it didn't want to know, changing the properties of the wireless network (on the view network connections pages) to WPA and TKIP seem to have done the trick, and we now have a wireless connection again.
Since restoring the laptop I am having problems when trying to watch video content that require a DRM license (e.g. football highlights on Virgin media's website). I've upgraded windows media player to version 11, internet explorer to version 7, and also downloaded the security and active x control updates as prompted, but still no joy. I Just get messages saying that there was a problem with the Digital Rights Management Component But main thing is the wireless connection is sorted!
