I am thinking of signing up for home max, as I live in a very small village where the exchange is ADSL only with no sign at all of a future upgrade to the dreaded LLu would I be safe going for this.
Also my village has only 600 people and therefore very small usage at the exchange, so am I right in thinking I would get good speeds.

A small userbase like that may sound good but it doesn't always work that well in practice, but it depends on what those users do.
Users are connected to the network through larger pipelines, if everyone in a pipe uses the connection fully then the speed everyone sees as maximum drops. Where this works against you is in larger population areas it tends to average out and in smaller populations it takes a smaller number of people downloading the newest game demo/film trailer/4oD/iPlayer video to have an impact.
It all depends on how the people currently in the area use their broadband along with a bunch of other factors.

Thanks for the reply, I was asking more in relation to Orange max rather than simply connection speed in general. I have been getting good speeds with Tiscali but after a recent disagreement where they agreed to up my price to include line rental only to forget to mention that the free line rental was not available in my area (they didnt forget to keep taking the extra cash) I have decided to try something new.
When looking at reviews most ISPs seem to have quite bad ones, orange seem to have more problems with LLU rather than ADSL. Am I right in thinking this?
Anyway I have received my MAC code from Tiscali and signed up for home max, hope I have done the right thing.

I live in a small village in the midlands with about 1000 on the exchange and started with home max early on with 7.6! This has steadily fallen to around 5 as more people have signed on so it may be pot luck!
