I have two problems, firstly having just done a speed test my upload and download speeds are terrible- 882kb/s download and 372kb/s upload . I've checked and am not on LLU. Anyone have any ideas to boost them? Should be on the 'up to 8' package.
Secondly, and even more annoyingly my connection will drop for 2-5 minutes once every 60-90mins - drives me mad!
Does anyone have any thoughts or potential solutions to these issues?
Have run the speed test:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8096 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 761 kbps
If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.
My router stats- it's a Livebox but (sorry to be so green) what stats do you need and where do I get them from?
2. Are there any extension boxes wired off the BT linebox ?
3 Are you using one of these extensions.
4. If the answer to either 2 or 3 is Yes, then remove front cover of main BT linebox and plug directly into the test socket using no filter. Run BT speedtest and router stats again using this connection and post them.

Don't think I've got a box with a test socket but I removed any extensions, plugged Livebox into main socket and this happened!!
This seems to have send the throughput rate through the roof! Will it also stop the connection dropping do you think? If so I'll have to work out a clever way to hide the box in the hall and buy a card for the desktop, but then I think I'll be sorted!
You need to check each box (incl. main BT linebox) if you are using modern phones (i.e ones without the old-fash. bell ringer) you only need wires connected to connectors 2 and 5.
I would also suggest that you get somebody to check all the cabling to the extension boxes and check that none of this cable runs adjacent to your house ring main electrics.

You probably lost connection if the phone rang or somebody dialled out.
Get the whole BT phone set up sorted and you'll be able to go back to the original layout.
I use an extension in the bedroom for my wireless router and have no problems.....but my extension box cabling has been sorted.

You've given loads of help already and I will now look at the phone cabling- I know the set up is fairly old but I've got to get my electrician in anyway to do some work in the garage so I might get him to have a quick look, he's a friend so sure he wont mind.
I finally feel I'm getting somewhere after 12months of frustration!
