Hello,
All last year we connected to the internet with our Speedtouch ethernet modem supplied by Orange and an Airport Express for wireless. It worked beautifully. We were away for 6 months and now it won't work any more.
We can connect to the internet directly with the ethernet cable and the modem-- no problem.
If we plug the ethernet cable into Airport it says it is connected and all is well. However, all is NOT well. We are not connected to the internet even when it says we are... So the only way we can actually connect is through built-in Ethernet on a cable.
We spent over an hour the other day with Orange on the phone. They couldn't figure it out. Maybe we need a new modem, they said. So we got a new modem. Same thing. We even got a new Airport Express-- same thing. All the devices appear to be working beautifully, but they don't actually connect us to the internet when we try to go wireless. We are mystified, since we haven't changed anything since last year when it did work (except upgrading software, perhaps)
We are using a PowerBook G4 with OS X version 10.4.10
Just to be clear is that a speedtouch router with built in wireless you're using or some other setup?
Sounds like while you've been away there's probably been some interference appear that's preventing the connection. You should be able to change the channel used in the speedtouch or whichever device is providing the wireless to try and work around it if thats the case.

No, it is a speedtouch ethernet modem only, with an Apple Airport Express wireless hooked up to it via ethernet. Both devices act as if they are working normally, but it is impossible to connect to the internet with the wireless. We are wondering if Orange changed something in the 6 months we were away, since it worked perfectly last March.
Thanks for your interest,
Sarah
P.S. There are no channels to be changed on the modem, so that won't work either...
Orange can't effect changes that block a direct ethernet connection compared to a wireless bridge (which is what that is really), there should be a way to access settings in the airport device to change the channel there. You ought to be able to access it's settings wirelessly but I don't know enough about it to be sure. If you can then it means the problem is between the speedtouch and the airport device, exactly what I don't know as neither should really have changed any settings.
