Wasn't exactly sure which part of the forums i should post this into...
Im running windows XP on both my PCs...
This PC is connected to the internet with an inventel wanadoo livebox.
Now on my other PC (which has just been fixed), I use an inventel wireless router to connect to the livebox.
I've installed it onto my other PC quite a few times, so I'm pretty familiar with how to install it etc.
Now this time, I put in the Wanadoo CD, it installs all the shizzle, tells me to plug in the wireless router to the USB port. I do that and it detects the wireless router and it says it's found a wireless network. Now on the next step of the installation it says
"Please select the livebox thingy you want to connect to from the list, and then enter the WEP security key."
There's nothing on the list to select. My livebox isn't showing up
now every other time I've installed it, the livebox has shown up straight away.
So can anyone help?
oh I've turned off windows firewall and closed my anti-virus before starting the installation process on my other PC as instructed
Is the antenna light on or flashing on the livebox?
If it's not right next to it then move the livebox next to the PC, it doesn't need to be connected to the phone line to setup the wireless and can give a better signal at least to start with.
You may need to change the livebox's wireless channel to avoid any interference etc. The sticky thread in this forum may also help.
Before I formatted my PC the other day, the livebox has been in exactly the same place as it is now, and I've connected to it fine.
Also, I know that the livebox is in range because this morning the wireless conection wizard popped up from the taskbar saying that "There was a wireless network in range of the PC, click here to connect". I clicked it and typed in the WEP key but it said "If you have enabled another program to set up the wireless connection, use that software."
So I tried using the wanadoo installation CD again, had the same problem
I've also tried changing the wireless channel and tried to install then, I've used channels 1,2,7 and 13, exactly the same thing happened on all of these channels
After trying all this I thought it might have something to do with a faulty CD, but I was able to copy all of the files from the Wanadoo CD onto my desktop and run the installation from there, so I know that none of the files on my CD are corrupt or anything like that. so that rules out the possibility of it being a problem to do with my CD.
Try this instead. Make sure the CD is installed, if not follow it through until it gives an error then exit it.
Go into the wanadoo folder in the start menu, inventel and run the wireless manager.
You should get a coloured square in the system tray, either red, yellow or green. Double click to open it, ideally it should be yellow/green by this point.
The list at the bottom "should" show your livebox, select it, press encryption key and enter it in the box/check it if one is there. Make sure the livebox is in pairing mode then hit connect and see what happens.
Thanks for all your help
Fixed it before your post elhana but thanks anyway.
All I did was switch the router and the livebox and installed them on the opposite PC, worked straight away >.<
so no-one will ever know why the router didn't show on the list ^_^
