I can see from the forum that many others are suffering the same problems as i am but i would like some advice just the same.
I have been in constant touch with Orange "tech help" since signing up for the 8mb service, 9 or 10 line tests have been done and finally i managed to get an open reach(BT) engineer out (today actually) he plugged his laptop in and confirmed what i already knew, the line is fine (dl rate of around 7.1 mb). so i phoned tech help who told me to phone cust services who put me through to cancelation department again!!!! i have now tested my connection with the live box and and independent router but still i cannot get a rate higher than 133kbps!!!!!
I have tried testing the live box and the router on a separate computer too and still the results are the same!!!!! does anyone know if the engineer tested my connection by connecting to Orange or was it a different provider?? I am lost now and doubting my sanity Any advice would be appreciated. Oh here are the speed test and live box stats if they help!!!
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
DSL connection rate: 224 kbps(UP-STREAM) 576 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 121 kbps

ADSL Max connection on a VERY short line as shown by the attenuation of 6db. The exchange next door?
Interleaving is on showing it's getting errors coming through.
Most interesting part is the sync rate of exactly 1/2 meg though the less than 288 upstream and profile not set to 1/2 meg do prove it's an ADSL Max connection.
Margin has been pushed up one level to the 9db mark showing the system thinks there's instability.

Thats very contradictory, the sync speed should be the same for all devices unless they're faulty.

What the engineer connected to makes no difference in this case as the sync speed is determined when the device establishes the connection and before it logs in.
As you have another router then there is a simple test you can do. Connect up the router and check what speed it's sync's at, usually listed as downstream speed in it's config somewhere similar to how the livebox lists the Downstream and Upstream. If it is much higher than the livebox it means the livebox is faulty. Speeds will not immediately increase however, it'll take the system upto 3 days to believe the line is stable before it increases the profile.

IP profile for your line is - 500 kbps

Hmmm i have just had a slight improvement in download speed. about 0.5 meg not done anything at all, is this a sign that things are improving??
