I have some speed issues on the 20 meg service but need some help with settings.
My setup is an XP Home SP2 pc hardwire connected to a wireless Siemens Gigaset router. I have a win XP SP2 Laptop and VISTA premium laptop. All of the kit is pretty new and plenty of space and processing power.
I'm on the "up to 20meg" service and my router shows a healthy downstream speed capacity of 13.5 meg.
Now then:
Running speed test.net on the same server I see ~5 meg on the ethernet connected XP pc; ~5meg on the wireless XP laptop but 11.5 meg on the wireless vista laptop!!
Are there some xp settings that need to be adjusted to free up the extra oomph??

Vlad , if you transfer files between the wired XP box and 1 of the wireless boxes what sort of transfer rate do you get? I run XP & Win7 and 7 gives me the transfer rate , does Vista do the same?
What if you connect the wireless laptops by cable does that change anything?
What firewall/antivirus are you running? Edit: Just seen that it's ZoneAlarm & AVG. I've often experienced that ZA will consume almost all the CPU power for a considerable time after startup with the only solution being a full re-install. Give that a try
On XP I've never had to do anything special when setting up the network so I can't think of anything there other than having up to date drivers.
thanks tinytim, thought I'd try this area of forum!
on the vista machine I did a speed test, haven't got it to hand at moment so can't tell whether it gives rate, network status on xp wireless laptop says 54Mbps connection to modem so should be OK with 11Meg.
I agree about zonealarm, it takes an age to start up. Thought I would ditch AVG and ZA and try commodo.
