Read the link on this page re. MTU and RWIN settings.
You might also need to change Network Connection Internet Protocol Properties (TCP/IP) to OpenDns : 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.
There's several threads covering the "how to"
Why did it happen ?.......Orange engineers have probably been messing about with server settings.....who knows, many on here have suffered the same problem....they're a bit like Foot and Mouth....starts in one area of UK and rapidly spreads across the whole country, but nobody escapes the infection.

i did read about the MTU settings but i don't think i can do that. it's too confusing for me. do you think the Orange helpline will be able to go through it with me?
i'll try the dns. i just learnt how to do that today.
thanks
ok, i'll try. but how do i know my speed?
and which file do i download? the zip file or exe file.
and how do i unzip and open from desktop?
sorry for all the questions. you're going to have to take me through this. thanks again.
the instructions are on the left, the download will create DRTCP folder in your PC's Program Files directory. You unzip and then double click the DRTCP.exe file.
Look at your router stats (where you originally configured it, http://192.168.1.1 or similar) and use the downstream data rate shown to determine which speed to enter.
But read the MTU/RWIN settings pages thoroughly before you start. Also if you change anything, make a note of the original setting so that you can reset if necessary.

thank you so much. i doubt i would have been able to go through with it. but it's working now. so it must have been Orange playing around.
can you tell me one thing though. how do i know my broadband speed. when i click on the connection, it says 100mbps.
or go to your router configuration page as I gave in the last post, it'll be something like http://192.168.1.1. Copy and paste this into another post and we'll check it. NB delete any personal data such as IP address.

Speedtests usually work with all connections. BT's specifically doesn't because it queries it's own systems to provide more details about the connection and log them incase needed due to a problem. As it can't get the details from the LLU system it simply refuses to do the test.
Thanks to this thread I've managed to sort out what could have been a HUGE headache.
Got connected today finally to Orange 8MB deal as part of my mobile phone contract, our phone provider is DST (who are really good) but £5 for unlimited broadband is not to be ignored.
Anyway I set up well and got one wired PC and two wireless going and thought everything was great.. till I noticed I couldn't click certain eBay links and my girlfriend couldn't send her emails through yahoo.
Oh well I thought, give's me a chance to test out Oranges FAMOUS technical support! OH DEAR. Not a single useful bit of help, even though I am extremely technically minded there was nothing they said that I could work with in sorting out my problem, they blamed it on Yahoo etc.
Well I'm not giving up.
12 hours later I find this amazing site, I dont mind Orange, their offers are good and compared to the competition I can work with what they do. But I understand dismay caused by confusion.
So anyway thanks to this thread we have sorted it out with
http://www.orangeproblems.co.u...hp?tweak=4
I ran our connection (8MB) through it with MTU=1458 it gave me the settings and I set them up on the PC's seperately now everything works fine.
Thanks Guys
MM
[ps]
we're only getting 6000kbps max here in Bristol according to http://www.speedtest.net/ but at least I can sort out my eBay stuff now and dont have to use downstairs neighbours WiFi
